No response in 3 days? Maybe a hint will help. It's a very old kit.

You got it, Chris!  I built that kit in the 1960's. It was a double kit, a stock coupe molded in black, and a fenderless hot rod molded in a metallic green color. I think I made the stock one into a hot rod too, and the fenders have been in my parts box since then. Both models are long gone.  You're up next.

Is it altered at all? Originally chromed? What do the ends look like? It looks like it's been painted, or at least the recesses have been.

"it looks like the tailgate from the chevy pickup"

Nope.

"Is it altered at all? Originally chromed? What do the ends look like? It looks like it's been painted, or at least the recesses have been."

Altered? Somewhat; it originally had a nerf bar at the bottom and another row of squares on top. Chrome is original and the recesses were painted. Overall shape is original.

"Grille from an Aurora parts pack."

Nope.

It is a custom part, from an older 1/25 scale car kit; and it is right side up. It fits over (and extends below) the stock grille opening, and the kit has never been reissued (although much later another company made a non-stock version of the same make and model). This is how it originally looked:

Is it from one of AMT's 60's kits with the looney custom parts?

'60s, yes. Looney, yes, on many of them. AMT, nope.
