'50 Olds - Root Beer Float

Incredible interior work. You're a crazy man if BMF is your favourite part. But it really does make a difference. I'm hoping for warmer weather too so we can see more updates on the body.

Hey Gluhead, this car is looking awesome...!!! Your interior work is just fantastic... I LOVE it. Like everyone else, I can't wait to see this thing in paint. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, guys...glad you like where it's headed.
I've mentioned earlier in the thread that I'm saving the engine for a hot rod. Can't leave the bay empty, so I've been picking away at this sbc...just a simple, reliable mill with a bunch of fins thrown at it. Works for me.
The valve covers are unknown parts box pieces. They're too shallow as is to look right, so I'm making them taller. In this pic, the drivers side has been re-worked and the passenger side is untouched. Any guesses what the air cleaner started out as?
Also, I'm having a hard time finding a nice small Rochester 2bbl in my stash. If anyone knows a good kit to steal one from, or possibly has an extra laying around, please let me know. A big carb on this thing would be a joke...it needs a normal sized squirter.

I think I stole the smaller carb outta my revell 64 impala kit, I'm sure it's not perfect for accuracy, but the size was right, and is pretty convincing under the air cleaner I'm using.

Hmmm....dunno, that metallic taste might not work so well with the root beer!
Actually, that sounds pretty good, Chris. I'll enjoy seeing what happens when you get it on the body. I like the visor and the cleanup so far.

Very cool so far Chris!
The MPC 1979/80 Monte Carlos have a Rochester 2bbl included (although not that detailed).

Great work! I've started a very similar color combo on my '50 Olds too; for the roof, I'm using a non-metallic color from Testors' lacquer line: Phonecian yellow(pretty sure it's a Ford color).

When you mentioned "Root Beer" for the color, that caught my eye.
I have a car body that I painted with the Testors "Root Beer" lacquer.
For the contrasting color, I chose Model Master #2909 "Light Ivory".....
Just a thought.....

I had to strip the first run at the color due to dirt I missed in the paint cup. Re-cleaned everything but that, so wouldn't ya know it. That in itself was no big deal...an hour or so with the high test alky on a cloth and it was ready to go...but I apparently missed one little sliver while masking the body off, and some alky wicked down through the mask onto the trunk.
. Dunkittydunk a day in the junk.
