Sear in the day contracted all there work out. I would say that they contracted a job with Aurora to make them some race set for Chrismas for Sears. Aurora was very big at the time in HO race sets. 3 of my friends at the time each purchased a race set and we had races at each others house each weekend.  Aurora was big because of its size, to the other bigger race sets that took a lot of room. I'm not sure on the Chrismas thing, but see that Sears did things like that to get people into the stores.
