My choice is the Monogram '55 Chevy.   My Wife bought me three of these one time because she knew I loved '55 Chevys.  I gave two of them to my kids to build.   What she didn't know is that I hated this kit.   List of reasons;

  1. I don't like 1:24 scale, I prefer 1:25
  2. I don't like the 2 door hardtop, I prefer the 2 door post
  3. I don't like to have the hood cut open
  4. The proportions look off to me on this one, especially in the rear
  5. I don't like the bucket seats and this one doesn't have a bench
  6. I don't like the way the rear wheel openings are cut
  7. The suspension is %#^&*
  8. "Bad Man" looks good compared to this one
  9. The tires are junk
  10. And the biggest reason, no one else here wants to build it! DSC03871.jpg

I opened this kit, although it still appeared to be in shrink-wrap, the kit had been started once before.  I will give it a try once again if allowed, I'm in..DSC04226.jpg

This is what I've got to start with.  I forgot I'd cut the driver's door out and cut a hole in the hood.  The tailgate is missing as well, though I think I've seen that in one of my parts boxes.  This will be a challenge.

That's putting it mildly. I would have thrown it away. Maybe you still should.  :(

Rob, I have the extra custom roof that comes with the AMT '65 GTO if that would work for your project. It isn't a fastback style though. If you're interested in it, send me a PM and I'll take a photo of it for you. I found it today digging for parts and thought you might could use it.

I realize most of use have today off as well as tomorrow, and there is no sense wasting a perfectly good day off.

So LET'S GET STARTED!

Here's an addendum to my entry, to show you what I'll be starting with.  The funny thing is that, other than the body style, the wheels are the only thing in this kit that I like and I'm already planning on replacing them  .  Well, at least they'll make a nice addition to the parts box.

The slicks are from a 1:24 '70 Chevelle kit that I just picked up for cheap at the winter sidewalk sale at my LHS.  I plan on using the 454 from this kit as well.

(I hope that commencing the "gathering phase" doesn't violate the 1 Jan. start date rule  )

OOPS, I didn't read the post above:  I guess I'm safe then :P .

Johann, just an idea for your '39. I'm building one now and just noticed that the Revell 1/24 '37 Ford kit has BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH near the same wheelbase as the '39 Chevy. The '37 chassis fits nicely, has good wheels/tires, and a decent interior. The '37 also comes with a chevy small block. It would be a no-brainer to kitbash the two.

If you can't tell where this one is going, scroll down to the second photo.  This is where most of my 1/24 scale  cars end up.DSC04235_zpsf944a950.jpgDSC04238_zpsbce842e4.jpg
