ajshot58
This is the start of my first model build-up in over 10 years... this is how I'd like to build the real truck... it will be a '58 GMC extended cab 4-door pickup, with a late-model engine married to a Saginaw 4 speed overdrive hybrid transmission (yes, it CAN be done). It will have Corvette-style rally wheels on RWL radial tires, and all the creature comforts afforded in a late-model pickup. The actual truck will have a short fleetside bed, but I'm using the Cameo bed for the model (unless someone knows where I can get the short fleetside bed?) I ordered the cab, frame and interior tub from Ron Andrews, and I am extremely pleased with them! The detail and fit are great, and at a reasonable price!!! I am still looking for tires, door handles, and the short fleetside bed, if anyone has any suggestions... I also welcome any other ideas!! Thanks for looking!! Longbox55
Pretty cool. Modelhaus offers a short Fleetside bed, it will have a Chevrolet tailgate, though. I have the long version I'm using on custom '57 3200 project, their stuff is top notch. Question about the 1:1 you have pictured on the bottom; Do you know if it was built using 2 cabs, or did they use one of the aftermarket conversion cabs? The conversion cabs (there wasn't a factory crew cab at the time) from back then are somewhat rare, used mainly by logging companies and railroads. ajshot58
Bill, the picture is actually a photoshopped image I created using a program called GIMP... Pretty cool, huh?? The actual picture was of a '58 Chevy pickup... I manipulated it to appear as if it was an extended cab, then added the GMC grille/bumper. Longbox55
That's pretty slick, you certainly fooled me with it! Especially when you consider that I'm one of the "Go To" guys when it comes to '55-'59 GM trucks on 2 other forums (Stovebolt.com and Gearz), and that my daily driver is a '55 3200 1/2 ton. ajshot58
Here's the assembled Cameo bed, test-fitted to the truck. The engine is the stock small block from the Cameo, with the upper end and front assembly from the '99 Silverado kit's 5.3 liter engine. I'm thinking of moulding the Cameo taillights into the rear fenders, and pouring acrylic in the centers for lenses. I'm also going to wire the truck for working head lights, taillights, and front park lights, as well as driving lights in the GMC "Dagmars"
ajshot58
Here are pics of the latest work..... Added fender skirts to the Cameo bed, and tubes for the headlights... more to come....
ajshot58
Latest pics of the build... I used the floor from a '99 Silverado, since the Cameo's interior tub doesn't extend all the way out to the body/doors. I added a custom center console, as well. I narrowed the rear section of the frame, and added inner wheel tubs to allow for the much wider tires, and molded the taillight housings into the rear of the Cameo bedsides.
