Topics I've Started

Looking for info from April 2005 Hot Rod magazine

18 October 2014 - 04:25 PM

There's an article about having your next project designed by a pro, with several automotive artists and their work featured. can someone tell me who the artists are? I've ordered the backissue, but of course I can't wait that long.

Thanks. Lee

I just found out I live near a Texas Chainsaw Massacre filming location

02 October 2014 - 06:37 PM

I've never seen the movie, but I found out that one of the opening scenes was filmed in a cemetery that's maybe a mile from my house. I drive by it every day.  Just ten years ago, this area was sort of "in the sticks". I can only imagine what it was like in 1974. There's a prominent grave with a Roman column in one scene. It is for a man who died in 1865.

I found this present-day photo online:

Across the road is a strip center. The red letters at the left of it are for Smokey Mo's, a local BBQ chain. That whole strip center is only 4 or 5 years old.

It was an interesting bit of trivia I heard on NPR while driving home.

Bad driving rant, with radical advice.

01 October 2014 - 08:55 AM

This rant is about people exiting a gas station or other business onto a busy street. Incident happened about 30 minutes ago. Gas station at a big intersection; 5 lanes north and south, 3 lanes east and west. A driver exited into northbound traffic at a red light, and tried to get into a westbound turn lane. With very little space and time to pull this off, only the bumper was in the turn lane, between two vehicles...the rest of the car blocking my lane. I thought about just laying on the horn, but decided not to. When the light turned green, everybody moved forward. Two cars now damaged. I started to drive around the car blocking my lane...then the driver swerved right, nearly causing a second collision. I should have honked. Maybe it would have brought one or both of the other drivers out of their trance.

Any time I see someone who obviously wants to go all the way across a big intersection, I NEVER yield for them. I don't want to wait while they block 3 lanes. Yes, I saw someone block that many lanes. They were in some 1970s land yacht.

Here's the radical advice: if you have no good options for exiting that gas station, go to a different gas station. (Or take the safe, but inconvenient exit) Yeah, that requires thinking ahead, but it beats getting in to an accident.

Sold my Mustang project. time to get busy on the Ranger

05 July 2014 - 11:51 AM

I finally sold my '88 Mustang and the '89 drivetrain donor. Now I can yank the Ranger drivetrain and begin a swap using a complete, running 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with a pushrod 5.0. I also plan to totally disassemble the interior and Dynamat the heck out of it.

Im so glad the Mustangs are gone. I just lost interest in them.
