Road Warrior Vermin T-Top Monaro

26 September 2014 - 12:15 PM

This is my resin HQ monaro that i built as one of the chase cars in Mad Max 2. The front is completely from scratch, made from foil and body filler. the grille is made from styrene rod. Chassis and interior is from a Chevelle kit.

Top Gear May's Sailing Triumph

16 September 2014 - 01:39 PM

Top Gear UK Amphibious Vehicles Challenge from 8.3 and 10.2
James May chose a Triumph Herald to make a car into a boat, by using it's boxy shape suitable for a runabout complete with Sails and Rudder. It had problems from the outset with low bridges and trees interfering with the mast and foam he'd put in the engine bay for buoyancy caused smoke and overheating. Sailing is harder than it looks as May lost control and ended up stuck in some weeds, but once he got going he very slowly made his way to the finish line, passing his team mates as they capsized just before completing the challenge.

The car is an Airfix 1/32 Triumph Herald styrene kit. it's a small car done in a small scale. After removing the roof, the car was mostly built straight up, with the exception of some extra details like inner doors and HT leads on the tiny engine. The body was sprayed with Duplicolor cream. I built a convertible cover from sheet styrene and drilled the hole for the mainsail. unfortunately the hole hit the firewall vertically. I finished off the model with lots of cleats and other sailing attachments made from some left over rope blocks from a sailing ship i built 20 years or more ago. A scratchbuilt rudder was added to the rear and some rigging was made with cotton. Airfix might not do cars, but they do know modeling, and the herald is an easy to build, well detailed kit, despite it's size.

Road Warrior Vermin Red XA

29 August 2014 - 12:54 AM

This is my red Falcon XA that gets cleaned up by the mack truck in the final chase of Mad Max 2. It was made from a 'body only' seconds of the "XB Interceptor" from Models56 (no chassis, wheels or engine). I cut out the fender arches from the body, from there i built up a chassis, starting with a flat plate from the quick-build chezoom kit, cutting it until it fit. i made all the suspension bits from styrene tube and got some wheels from my spares, they came off a 1/38 scaled Kenworth. I made a new rear bumper from diamond plate styrene. The big exhaust stacks were built from 1/8 styrene rod and the rear wing is sheet styrene. It was painted in two tones, black and primer red. i then painted the 'bat' on the hood by hand. It was weathered with lifecolor weathering acrylics.

Deathproof - Chevy Nova

29 March 2014 - 02:18 PM

This is from the Tarrantino movie 'Death Proof'. The model is the AMT 72 Nova. i've gutted the interior and added the full roll cage, including the passenger tractor seat. It also has the Duck hood ornament and DP skull logo.

Mad Max - Black Pursuit Special

29 March 2014 - 02:13 PM

This is my build of Max's car from the first movie. It's an Aoshima Road Warrior kit with a mm1 resin transkit from Frank. the kit is the latest release with the photoetch extras. The build went very well, except for the boot lid, which i had major trouble with the hinge and making it fit. (brass rod snaps if you bend it too much!)

I plan to use the left over upgrade parts to fix up my previously built Road Warrior Interceptor.
