Topics I've Started

Nikola Tesla

26 May 2012 - 04:24 PM

It's getting to that time of year again, in little over a month it will be July 10th. Nikola Tesla's birthday.

I'm running an idea or two in my head that I may end up acting on.

First idea, is I will build a completely Tesla-inspired vehicle model, and post the reference materials and progress on it's own thread.

Second idea is starting a Community Build for what I'd like to call 'Nikola Tesla Day'.

I am a huge fan of Tesla's work and wholeheartedly believe his ideals and inventions could have made the world a better place than it is today. I want to do something for his birthday to show that respect...

If anyone has comments or ideas, or thinks the Community Build would be a good idea, let me know!

1933 Willys Coupe Rat

21 May 2012 - 07:22 AM

I did a simple build of this kit, and after much deliberation and head scratching, I decided to go rat with it.

The hood just seemed too.... false? I don't know the word I'm looking for but I just didn't like how it was all one piece so I "scrapped" it for a different build in the future.

This build has no glass! I've seen so many pics online and throughout craigslist and similar sites with Rats for sale and a good bit had no glass so I decided to go that way with my build.
The steering assembly, tie rod and shocks were a pain, but I finally got 'em in right-

I used the 64 decal from the black widow chevy, the champion spark plugs decals from the same kit, and the AHRA sticker from the Don Garlits Dodge Dragster decal sheet I somehow have in my decal bag.... I don't rightly recall where I got those from.

Here's the pics!

I'll probably do more to this build in the future, but for now this is where it's gonna stay! Thanks for lookin!

1977/78 Dodge Monaco

01 May 2012 - 07:43 PM

I'm starting with the Dukes of Hazzard Rosco police car kit from MPC.

Over all not too bad of a kit, plus it comes with all sorts of neat extras.

I won't lie, I bought this kit for all the extras, like the light bar, CB radio, first aid kit, onboard computer, and guns....

But I also like the car.

Never watched Dukes, so I'm not a fan of the show- so I have no qualms using this kit for my own devious intentions.

The way I am going to build this Monaco is basically your run-of-the-mill junker. Different color hood, rusted out body, bad upholstery, old bumper stickers.

This car used to be somebody's everyday beater back in its prime!

I'm building it "stock", none of the add ons from the kit, just the basic car. Once I get some time tomorrow after work, I'll post some progress pics.

Scraps and Spares

13 April 2012 - 06:03 PM

So, I sit here lookin at the several random bits in my boxes, and my collection of interesting things I've made in between kits using old sprues, model bits, and some imagination... and I start wondering.

How many of you use your scraps in little "fidgety" projects that you just come up with out of the blue... no planning, no direction until you've gone halfway through the project, just putting solvent to plastic and seeing where it goes from there?

I do it all the time, in fact a good bit of my fine detail pieces I use in the builds I do use the techniques and ideas I come up with during "fidgeting" time.

I'll post some examples in photo form later on when I take my photos this weekend so you can see what I come up with, but please do share your stuff with us in the mean time!
