Revell hit a home run with this one....

15 February 2015 - 03:50 PM

Revell, in my opinion hit a home run with one of their latest ideas. The build and play snap tite kits.Attached File  20150214_183755.jpg   127.13KB   0 downloadsYesterday was model building day with "Papa". I've  been working some time with my 7year old grandson on his project. His 4 year old brother wanted one of his own, so off to the hobby shop we went. We found this model for $12.95 which he was not only able to assemble by himself, but was able to play with afterward, like any 4 year old would want to do. Revell if you see this, thank you. These kits are great for kids with little or no skills yet want to be able to do their own model.Attached File  20150214_121626.jpg   144.31KB   0 downloads  This may not be what us 50 something year olds want, but we have to remember that we aren't the only ones involved in the  hobby.

Have you ever had that uneasy feeling.....

29 July 2014 - 03:54 PM

......when you hand a seven year old an xacto knife.

My grand son wanted to try his hand at a model "just like grandpa". We've already built a snap kit. Now he wants to do  a "real" model.

I know he needs to learn, but when he starts using a tool that can practically cut his finger off, it makes me a little uneasy. I stay very close, and "coach " him through every step , so that there are no need for a trip to the emergency room. But it still makes me nervous.

How about you.... what experiences have you had trying to teach a little one our hobby?

I'm Building a weathered '41 Chevy pickup. I want to use some decals to represent a work truck, and want the decals to look beaten. faded and old. Any suggestions?
