Topics I've Started

1970 Toronado

04 April 2014 - 09:44 PM

G' Day folks,

Saw a documentry on TV about this car, then the opportunity came when a fellow model builder was selling a few kits, he had this one, so I grabbed it because I have never built a JoHan before :) .

For it's age, it was in pretty good shape apart from the tyres, I used some spares I had in my parts box.

I've gone for the factory look and the colour choice was tough but in the end I settled for Testors Deep Maroon. The paint chip chart showed a Grenadier Red which looks like Maroon anyway. I used Tamiya finishing compounds instead of a clear coat.

The final assembly was very tricky, especially mounting the separate wheel wells inside the body, the stance looked odd so I modified the front end to give it a more realistic look.

Anyway here she is

Cheers

70 Pontiac Firebird

01 March 2014 - 06:10 PM

Finally off the bench, Revell 'Motor City Muscle' kit from 2006.

I read somewhere due to a licensing issue the 'Trans Am' decals were not included, so I had a friend make some for me and a fantastic job he did too!

After looking at countless pictures of this car, I settled for the gloss white paint & blue stripes. rather than using a clear coat, I decided to polish the paint using the Tamiya coarse then finishing compounds.

Colour is 'Mr Colour ' white and the interior is 'Tamiya' TS-54 light metallic blue (with a dull coat) also using a Revell flat blue as a secondary colour.

Engine was enhanced using a pre-wired dizzy and dominator carby from 'Pro-Tech' and I did a subtle 'drop' at the front end. I was going to use Pegasus Chrome Ts for the wheels but settled for the factory rims which were de-chromed and repainted silver.

Thanks for looking guys :) .

77 GMC Tow Truck

27 January 2014 - 09:26 PM

Built this as part of another forums community build where you had to build a ute of some description for 'Australia Day' B)

I put this together over a 36 hour period including a dash conversion to capture that Aussie look....there are a few of these Down-under; however, becoming pretty scarce as the much easier 'tilt trays' are far more common.

I de-chromed the rims because they looked a bit too shiny for a tow-truck and painted them Tamiya Silver Leaf.

The false engine caught me by surprise and in the end I just had to detail it as best I could ;)

I cut the 'roo-bar' off because it looked like a fence in my opinion and would not stop a 6 foot Kangaroo

Paint is Tamiya TS-34 Camel Yellow and a few decals including the Slixx pin-stripes, gear in the back is from the Fujimi 'Tools' kit and a few other sources.

Cheers

69 Buick Riviera

30 December 2013 - 03:35 AM

G' Day folks,

Last one for the year... ;)

AMT kit, not too bad to build,(average kit) I based the build after seeing the pic below which I liked.

17545238-700-0_zps2f5a2814.jpg

Paint is Mr Colour Silver and White, clear coat and polished.

Nice engine options with the custom version and Hilborn injection, settled for the Hilborn.

I played around with different rim and tyre options, but in the end I settled for the kit rims. I lowered the suspension by re drilling the axle holes above the original.

Cheers and Happy New Year everyone B)  :D
