"NEW" Parts Pack kit Chevy Covair engine and a Chrysler

With this parts pack, you can put a turbo in the 'Vair

I believe the Corvair engine can be built unblown too, if I remember correctly. Two of my favorite engines. So I'll be buying a set. Now what I'm going to do with them I don't know? I haven't put the release of these to use yet. I built them both. And the Corvair engine sits in the back of my AMT '55 Nomad/ElCamino. But, still I'll be buying another pair.

really? you do realize these exact trees have been more or less in circulation for decades? not to undercut the effort or anything, but you can probably pick up that stevens international pack with these exact sprues and believe me a whole lot more, including the other parts pack engine set just released, and probably pay less for it than you will for both these parts packs.

I am all for the parts pack program, but I wish they would come up with something a bit better than this. they are certainly worthy motors (oops, "engines") on their own, just a bit overexposed. I am sure they were quick and easy (read: cheap) to run off though.

JB do have to contradict everything? A couple of months ago I started looking for the Stevens Interenation parts, because I wanted the t-body. I have yet to see one at a decent price. So I'm glad AMT is reissuing this stuff. I am courious JB, in reading your postings. Do like anything being issued or reissued out there? And are you ever happy when something is released that others will enjoy?

hi uncle scott, thanks for the response. if that's how you feel, why don't you just ignore me then, sport. wont be any skin off my sunburned butt, believe me.

as for the T body if I had noticed you needed one I would have offered to send you one. i have multiples lying around.

actually if you knew how to use ebay search facility you would realize there have been multiples of this stevens int version available and sold for 30$ or less, one as low as 18, in the past two months. try searching for: "competition parts pack -custom" (no quotes) in completed listings and you will see what I mean. and then notice what the list price of this parts pack is going to be. pretty simple stuff.

by the way, no I don't have to contradict everything. but there I went again.

I gotta agree with JB here. The Blueprinter release years ago started the reissue of "Parts Packs", it had both engine trees (unplated), and a plated tree with bumpers, and grilles. A great set of trees in one box at an affordable price. The Stevens reissue has both engine trees (plated), a plated Allison V-12, and the altered T body that fits the Double Dragster Fiat chassis. That's four trees in one box!!! It is nice to see these reissued in Round 2's new Parts Pack series, but I haven't bought many because my Hobby Town has them marked at $17.99 ea.

As far as what to do with that Corvair engine.....

It fits in the Manx like it was made for it, just cut the transaxle off the VW engine, trim the Corvair block flat, and add the transaxle. All the turbo plumbing fits, but you have to modify the body to fit the turbo & carb, no biggie, AMT gives you a cover!!!

Wow! Very nice Meyer's Manx. A great choice of a color I would have never thought of. That and the Corvair Turbo. Very kool.

Speaking of Corvair engines ......... The Revell dune buggy kits have a nice Corvair engine in them which is funny because the VW engines in the Revell Buggies are atrocious! The AMT engine in the Manx is pretty nice, though. Oddly enough all of the AMT and MPC dune buggy kits offered either a VW or a Corvair engine but not both in one kit. Revell gave you both in every kit. Speaking of odd, I do have almost all of the 1/25 dune buggy kits produced. I couldn't stomach the Revell Super Safari - way too ugly and not a real buggy either as far I know. The Barris T-buggy was actually produced and sold in 1:1. I saw one on Ebay recently. I may have to slide a Manx chassis under one of them.

I am like many, I have several of these in my stash already. Now if they really want to get my attention. How about the go cart from the 63 Ford pu, or the Triumph cycle from the 63 Chevy pu or even the Soap box derby car from the 69 El Camino. Issue some of those and they will have my attention.

How about the Meyers "Tow'd"? Not really a dune buggy, more of an off-roader, but if I remember correctly it had the Corvair engine- and it was molded in green.

  • 1 month later...

Modified Corvair engine from the Blueprinter parts pack. Upgraded with a scratchbuilt intake system and a turbocharger from an Unimog kit to give it that post-apocalyptic look. Slanted to a VW bug transmission and chassis from the old Monogram kit molded in pink.

I'm not into the whole "road warrior" thing at all, but I have to admit, that's different, interesting, and cool! B)
