Beatnik Bandit II

When I built this one I decided that I wanted a color other than the yellow on the box....so I went with Krylon Ocean Blue Breeze . Then after getting the decals on I decided that the "Stylized" Rat Fink decal for the side looked wrong with the paint, so I made my own decal incorporating a stylized "Fly" that Roth always signed his name with. A fitting tribute in my own estimation. :)

The one thing about this kit that bugged me was that the canopy is not hinged. I was too lazy to scratch build a hinge, so the top is being held up with a sewing needle. Oh well......

Another great Roth build Charles!!! I like the new decals, but don't care for the color to much. The kit decals on this one are a bear....I recently did one too.

Yep, some o my decals dissolved and I had to go back and recoat them...lost the set for the engine that way! Your build looks Excellent! I couldn't do all the decals as you did due to my eyesight and lack of patience for them fenders and nosepieces! I didn't want another yellow Roth build as the Mysterion I just finished is yellow as well. I went with the light blue 'cause I wanted the decals to "Pop" as well as they do on the yellow! Again, great job!

Roth was a very tall man ... about 6-4, I believe. Not sure whether the figure is 100 percent to scale or not, but, I think it's more a case where the 1:1 BB II was a very small car, which would make Roth (or anyone) look taller standing next to it.

Most of Roth's cars were on the smallish almost compact side. Both of the BB's were small as was the Road Agent, Stealth 2000, and Rotar. I know he used a Corvair engine for the Road Agent and a Geo Metro for the Stealth 2000. I think he went back to smaller stuff after building the Mysterion and Orbitron, both larger efforts.

I haven't seen a pic of him INSIDE any of the smaller cars. It musta been cramped, he was a tall dude!

Kewl! I like the color, very '80's! It's nice to see people thinking differently on these show rods.
80's!?! Man that is exactly what I was shooting for!! (not really, but I loved the 80's!) It seems very difficult these days to come up with a very different paint scheme without airbrushing the beejeebers out of the build, so I very much appreciate all the comments, pro and con! Keeps the brain working!
