What's the most copies of one model car kit bought for u guys?

Recommended Posts

Wow! The most I've ever had is three or four of the same kits. And never at the same time. Serval repeats have mainly been old AMT kits. '57 Ford, Chevy, and Thunderbird. A few Avantis over the years. Several different Impalas of different years. A couple of '65 Chevelle wagons and El Caminos. A couple of Buick Wildcats and Rivieras of different years.

Most of the time I only purchase one of a kit. There are many cases where I've purchased a second kit to replace a kit I use to have years ago, but no longer. Normally one of a kit is enough for me.

I've got maybe 16-18 of the AMT 1962 Impalas, about 8 Revell Thunderbolts, 14 Lindberg 1964 Dodges. and maybe another 8 of the 64 Plymouths.

None of these are all the exact same car. But all are on hand , be them built or unbuilt or somewhere in between .

But by reading thru this thread,,I'm an amateur

I find this question irresistible. Here's my list of repeat offenders at the Lab-RAT-ory:

#1. 41 Willys, dozens by now.

#2. 49 Merc Special Edition. I try to build a couple every year. I have a personal challenge to see how many different ways I can build this.

#3. 66 Chevy Nova (AMT)--for parts robbing.

#4. 32 Ford

#5. Super Bee (AMT)--for parts robbing.

I bought 4 of the re-issue 1/16th "Street charger", I have owned at least 4 AMT 1970 Impalas ... it is a model that for some reason I screw up constantly. I bought 4 1/16th 1957 vettes on ebay, then I do not know for sure but at least 10 Monogram nascar 89ish Tbirds in various boxings over the years.

I hoarded the Street Chargers since the tooling was going to be modified and never released again, and I planned to build several 1957 vettes but after I finished one, I did not want to do it again.

Now do not get me started on Hasegawa 1/48 phantoms...

I've got over 10 of the Tamiya Peugeot 206 WRC kits in their various iterations, seven of the Tamiya Porsche 956 kits(plus three of the 962s),five of the Revell '49 Mercury and at least that many of the Revell '57 Chevy 2 door sedan(the new tool kit,not that old monster from the 60s).

36 metal Monogram 56 T Birds. A local Ford dealer in Glenview Il. hired me to make them for Thunderbird buyers back in the 80's. I will never build another one. When you get one of these jobs, you think this will be fun, but when your finished. you realize, this takes all the fun out of building model cars and ended up taking a year off building model cars.

Usually at last 2 for a kit I REALLY intend to build, the 2nd one for backup. Otherwise an average of 4 when I can find a good deal, which is important since I work in 1/16 and 1/12, where the prices are usually high. Reference kits in smaller scales are usually one at a time.

Not a surprise to anyone who knows me:

1/12 Corvette: dozen+

1/12 Camaro: close to a dozen

3rd gen Trans am (Monogram): Can`t remember all that I built from the 80`s, but it is probably in the dozens

`70 Challenger T/A (Monogram) - dozen+

But I the most difficult to acquire was probably about 6 or 7 Linberg Firehawk kits. They are somewhat rare.

I've had at least nine AMT '57 Fords over the years, including the one I'm gathering parts for to build my uncle's car. At the moment I have four '61 Falcons (one coupe and three Rancheros - a built Ranchero Grande late '60s issue and two of the street machine version, one of which will become a stock sedan delivery).

I know the feeling. I was a big stamp collector and got into the business end, buying and selling collections and my first day cover business took off and had a life of it's own. It got old fast, try affixing stamps to 2500-5000 specially printed envelopes for each and every new stamp issue! When that ran it's course, I didn't want to look at a stamp for years!

20 70 Torino gt kits and 20 70 Torino cobras

Anywhere from 2-10 of everything else. I never get less than 2 at a time of anything. I believe it's called hoarding. That's what my wife calls it anyway

hehe, my wife calls it "stupid". she doesn't understand the kit bashing aspect. i tell her it's just like cooking, you can put different ingredients in the same dish to make it different..... she just give me the look.....

I have a stash of AMT Pro Street Coronets due to the abundance of stock and aftermarket goodies. I also bought about 8 of the re-issue Ramchargers F/E dragster when they were released a while ago, never built one. I also have about a half dozen Revell `32 Ford kits in various versions.

I also have 5 unbuilt MPC `68 Barracuda annuals.

I have maybe 80 or so kits in my stash and only 2 doubles the Revell 57 Chevy "california wheels" kit and the old Monogram Promodeller 70 Ford Torino GT, 2 of my favourite kits, Id love to own more but they are hard to come by here in the UK.
