  1. Cheers guys! Never done anything like this before, so I'm a bit clueless about techniques. I'll probably make an armature/skeleton from wire and then add blobs of bondo bit by bit! I'll keep you updated. John
  2. My first attempt at figure modelling. All made in bondo so far and not yet finished, but I think I've captured him already!?
  3. That is truly a lovely piece of workmanship. You should be very proud of that and I wish it was mine!
  4. Really nice job Frank, you should be proud of it!
  5. Guys, If you ever get the chance to come over ...go for it! How about this for a taster? 4 Spitfires, a Hurricane and a Bearcat ready for take off plus the man...Sir Stirling and his Osca! The light was also absolutely perfect yesterday - even this part of England never usually looks this good! Oh, and there were around 7 or 8 Lola T70 Spiders too!!! ) ...and the GI's made it!
  6. You guys would have loved The Goodwood Revival yesterday! Have many GT 40's? How about 7 of them?! Insane!
  7. Hey Cato, Just had a quick scan of Tamiya Model Magazine (Sept 2010). There's a really nice build of the GT40 in there by Fabrice Marechal...well worth a look!
  8. Dave, I meant to ask you...how did do the Donovan 417 text on the block? I've got to do something very similar on my scratchbuild, but don't fancy machining it, or doing it by hand. Tempted to get my head around photo-etching instead!
  9. Wow..magnificent stuff. Don't let Sherline see it, it's probably stronger than their gear! LOL!
  10. Very, very nice job. You're doing that kit a lot of credit!
  11. Knowing Tamiya, nothing else will have changed (apart from maybe the decals being made by Cartograph?) which will be a huge improvement. Yeah, the Sid Taylor scheme looks very fresh...my main problem is I want to do a snorkel Lotus 47 too, which was in the same colours and both of them raced in the BOAC 500 at Brands! Go on fill yer boots with the decals - I've got a set and they're very nicely done: http://www.f1specialties.com/main/conversions/l70.php I'm sure he used to do the Goodyear decals too but can't find them there!
  12. Yep, must admit I've never been a fan of BRG on any car myself, which is why I thought the Sid Taylor scheme looked good. Another issue I have with the kit are the wheels, as the rims are too deep for most versions. The Taylor car is the only one I've have seen in period pictures of with the deeper rimmed versions - oh, and the kit tyres aren't Goodyear, of course...grrr! Had a quick look at the Bamsey book, there's a pic on the cover and a few colour shots showing the car in green. Two prototype shots are at the ring in '67, can't find mention of chassis numbers though. It's always diffcult to judge colours from these old pics, but the green grass in the background looks correct so the colour balance is probably OK? Will try and scan them later. Oh yes, and there is definitely a red 1/2" pinstrip on the edges of the white arrow - probably red insulation tape! )
  13. Thanks Dave, Not been near the project, or a lathe/mill for ages, but I've have drawn up accurate plans for every part on the car at last..not easy when there's only 14 left on this planet! Hoping I may win a 1/8 prototype commission when I'm done with the paper, but not holding my breath on that one Got my next 1/8th project drawn up too...The Stutz Black Hawk Special! It's big!
  14. Hi Cato, Thanks for the great advice. I'd love to go for the GT40 too, but I'm hoping to see if the price finally drops a bit as they're around $200 here! I kind of imagined UK suppliers would order far too many and slash their prices - only in my dreams! I seem to have too many 1/12 models to build already but was asking about the rocker covers because I've got 2 Lola T70's to do one day and they have the chrome Chevy covers. Got to get my scratch-build 1/8 RS60 up and running first...not enough time! Argh!
