Questions For Mackinac 359

Recommended Posts

I've been surfing truck model sites for awhile now and finally joined one.You seem to be the Pete expert of the web so I'll ask a few questions.I'd like to build a 1967 351-m,125" bbc that i have pics of.I'm going to try converting an amt cab to a little window as showen elsewhere on this forum. It states this truck has outboard-mounted clutch linkage and steering box for a "cat".My question is how much different is this to an amt kit? Also what kit has a "cat"that would work for this truck?I read on another forum a question about Allis-Chalmers truck engines,do you know anything about these.Your work is AMAZING!

Welcome!

The 351M (M for combination of Aluminum frame and steel crossmembers) is quite a bit different from the

359, but in 1/25th scale, the differences aren't that apparent.

The AMT kit represents a 1975 359, you're backdating a few years. Both trucks had outboard steering gear box. Some 351's had the steering box inboard (inside the rail) but this set up won't fit with the Cat at the time. PB eventually made all the steering boxes outboard for ease of service. The kit has the box outside the rail. (it wasn't until the 379 that the steering box moved forward of the axle).

For a Cat of that vintage you are out of luck. The Revell/Monogram snap 359 has a Cat, but it is a 1980 vintage.

The Allis-Chalmers engines.. a very short lived product! I don't think you'll find any working specimens today.

Brief info: 351 BBC's..

the standard was 119 BBC. This hood accepted the Cummins 250 and 350, along with the Detroit Diesel 671 and 8v71.

The 123" and 127" BBC were for the bigger turbocharged engines are are quite rare today.
