Only to find out, uh-oh, you're not as creative as you thought? Case in point - Im a rather fond fan of "Gorillaz" and they've a music video "Stylo" and it has a black Camaro, and it's got bullet holes and a broken light and a blower and a custom badge. And I thought today, man I'd love to build that, I could be the first to! So while looking at source pics on the Internet, what did I see... Someone's already built one in 1/25, and it looks perfect. Steven Zimmerman Posted June 23, 2013 Share Posted June 23, 2013 Yep, did a radical chopped top, windshield laid back, body sides re - sculpted, wheel well modified, 72 Chevelle and sent it to the resin caster, wher it 'languished' for a year...And then a similar vehicle pops up on this forum, as a '2014' Chevelle ? Nothing makes me angrier than getting this "no one else will EVER think of this" idea and the next month I see it in the magazine! I know no one is actually stealing the idea, but still it's frustrating sometimes thinking you have an original idea then BAM, you find you're not as original as you thought. In fact, I've procrastinated so long on body conversions that kit manufacturers have actually produced them as kits! Tomo, wait until you are our age... ideas I remember as just having, I realize are 10 years old! Kits I remember just working on but put aside, also 10 years old! JM485 Posted June 23, 2013 Share Posted June 23, 2013 Yep, I was building a dodge Deora a while back and almost right when I started my project, another member of a different forum posted pictures of a completed one almost exactly like how I planned to build mine. Fabrux Posted June 23, 2013 Share Posted June 23, 2013 A while back I started trying to build a 1967 Charger with a Coronet roof as I rather dislike the roofline on the 66-67 Chargers. I got so far with it and forgot about it. Later someone else built the same thing, but a different route. I may still finish mine someday.... PappyD340 Posted June 24, 2013 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Well guys I suppose it has happened to all of us , but just because someone else has the same idea, no two builds are going to be alike, you may have different wheels or aftermarket parts or go about the build in a totally different way, or another color. The crux of the whole thing is it's all about what you put into it, your inspiration, your hard work, your imagination and skill. One "fellow" club member noticed a unique detail I did and decided to do the same to his contest model and advertised the fact he thought of it. & won a trophy for his work. sigh... I asked him nicely when he saw it before the contest " Please don't steal my thunder until after the up & coming show" He laughed as he walked away saying no chance of that I'm using it anyway. My approach is simply to always try to compound ideas from the best sources. If you are going to be inspired, you might as well be inspired by the very best. We've been dealing with the issue of NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN since Shakespeare's time, and yet, the world of full of great new ideas and inventions.
