'67 Plymouth GTX build Update 7-28-14 (Under glass)

Hi guys here's my third build of the year. Some of you may remember that during the build of my '67 GTX last year I ended up breaking the front windshield posts in a attempt to lower the roof line. I bought a backup model on Evilbay just in case I couldn't fix it. I didn't have to use it and it's just been sitting here so I thought I might as well build it up and add it to this years cannonball run over in the community build projects.

Nothing has been done to the kit be me aside from a quick mock up last year, the previous owner or someone prior has everything sprayed gross black, one coat no primer. So I've been stripping the parts these past few days trying to get everything back to square one. Plans for it aren't as grand as last year, going to sand down the roof trim and badges again so it'll have a smooth body. I'm "not" lowering the roof this time (learned my lesson last year lol) it wasn't hard to fix, it was just stressful. Colors for this one will be Charcoal Grey metallic with a matte black hood.

Last years mock up.

Thanks John and Carl! Neither can I Larry!

The body is still in the tub soaking the top half now. After thinking some more I had the thought of taking a few elements from other Mopars and adding them to the gtx. This first one is modifying the hood scoop to more match the 68 Dart's hood scoop.

Got the body work done, painted and polished and trim painted. The paint is Rust-oleum Metallic Charcoal.

I ended up sanding to much on the trunk lid so as soon as the weather lets me I'll see about respraying the trunk lid.

The hood scoop has it's first coat of flat back, I still need to sand the emblems off the hood.

Despite how it looks in the picture the grill is fulling painted, that white is just the specularity of the semi gloss black I painted it with. I may change it to flat black later.

Update time, haven't re-spayed the trunk and right front fender yet. Humidity is like 500% right now so that will have to wait a few more days. However I have been working on the stance shaving the front assembly down to lower the front. The broken Steering bar will be fixed, I got a little rough with it trying to gind the plastic down..

Also smoothed down the hood and got it's final coat of paint on.

And here's a little mock up, there was more white than chrome on the rims and bumpers and what has left literally flaked off. I've seen a few '69 Super Bee's with black bumpers, I'm not sure if they came from the factory like that but thought it looked really good so I thought I would try it on this and think it turned out pretty good. Fitting of a Cannonball racer I think. The rims where all matte black at first but I decided to put some Tamiya Gunmetal around the outer ring to so they wouldn't just blend into the tires.

Here's another little update showing off the 426 Hemi it's keeping, will probably paint the oil filter black to match the Mopar brand oil filters. It will be getting wired I just haven't made a distributor cap yet lol.
