Late Model Mustang Pro Sportsman

Hello all,

This is my first blog, it may become obvious.

Had decided to build a late model drag car some time ago and was inspired by a few that I have seen in this forum.

I started with the Revell '06 Mustang GT because it had a flat hood. I also purchased the Revell 55 Chevy Pro Sportsman kit for the running gear.

The 55's running gear required little modification to make it fit the Mustang Body, but the cage is way wrong for my app. so I am in the process of scratchbuilding my own.

I will attempt to post a few pics from time to time to show progress, if and when I figure out how to do that..

I invite all comments and suggestions as I am somewhat of a rookie.

Just moved this to the drag racing section.

Realized that I had started my blog where no one could get to it.

Thanks to all the tips that modelers have given to this point.

More pics soon, been working on the cage a little.

Also, will be starting to build the Ross Gibson that I bought for this piece.

Here a few pictures of the progress for the Mustang.

Thanks to all for the great tips for how to bend the styrene for the cage.

Added the seat and some belts from Modeling by Chris.

The Ross Gibson Engine is progressing slowly. Really like the detail of this

piece but being the amateur that I am it is a difficult build.

No worry though, I don't give up easily and will prevail.

Thinking I probably should have purchased the body from Reliable. But it might turn out ok.

Maybe the next one I will go the extra mile and use the good parts.

I've been watching without comment till now. This is far from amateurish.

It's looking top notch and the Gibson motor will be a great addition. I myself haveabout 6 of them and have yet to use one. But, I have a few scratchbuilt type drag cars coming up and they will get used.

This build is coming along very nicely

It's all Ford thru and thru promodmerc. Just like the builder...

The reason I changed the scoop was the other did not fit up with the windshield.

I'm kinda picky... :D

I have another too, I keep switching back and forth.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

But I really am a rookie. The Blue Corvette you see in the backround was my first build in at least 30 years.

Built those in commemoration of a friend of mine that died last year.

Working on the Gibson, and steerable front susp now.

Slow going this week, work is killing me...

Trying to keep those Fords in the winners circle.

Ok Gang,

Here are a few more shots of the Mustang.

Been working mostly on the front steering.

My 1st step was to make my spindles and springs.

I used 3/32 alum tube for the spindles and some small wire for the springs.

As you will see it took a few tries to get the look I wanted.

Then I tried to come up with some sort of rack and pinion type of tie rod.

This is my best idea to this point, it could change.....

Again I used a piece of 3/32 alum tube and ran some small flexible wire thru it.

The wire has a solid core so I bent a 90 on the end and drilled a hole in my spindle steering arm to match the wire.

So far so good, I'll let you know when I get a little further along.

As you can tell from the pictures I have not made a lot of progress on the Ross Gibson.

The yellow wires that you see off to the right of the chassis in a couple pics are the beginnings of the plug wires.

After I get this front suspension finished I would like to get that motor done and installed.

Then I can finish up with the supports for the bay bars (the cage around the motor).

I'll try to keep this moving along... Maybe cut out the trunk lid and add some detail to the rear.

Plumb the fuel cell and nitrous tanks.

Still haven't decided on a scoop for the hood or a paint scheme for the body.

Looks good so far limo, the first scoop does look better. If it doesn't fit right, MAKE it fit, it's only plastic. looks like you need to adjust the wheelbase a tad too. Oh, an to be honest with you, you ARE supposed to put your REAL name in your sig, unless of course,your parents actually DID name you limoman. It just makes for freindlier communication. :rolleyes:B)

More than welcome Rick! :D For not havein done a model inna while, your sure doin a GREAT job on this lil rascal! There aren't too many newer Mustang Pro-Stockers(at least I haven't seen many)out there. Yours looks like a 10 second machine easy!!! Don't stop now Daddy-O, she's lookeen goood! :D:D

WOW its coming together really good I'm working two mustang kits, some what with the same thing in mind. I'm getting a one of my kits from reliable resin i cant wait to see how your stang comes out.

Hi rick my name is Josh I'm alittle green to this to. But here a picture of the one I'm putting together i my self like the other scoop just a little cutting here and filing there then it went in like the factory should have put in.
