I saw that the Ron Pratt Futurliner sold for 4 million dollars this weekend at the Barrett Jackson auction .

# 10 the one in the Hemmings story is the one I sat in this summer.

Futurliner #10 used to sit at a Cadillac dealership near where I grew up at in Detroit. It sat in the used car lot on the corner of Grand River and Winston-I must have went past it thousands of times growing up.

It was my Dad that told me what it as and what they were used for.

Of course #10 has been restored and now lives at NATMUS Museum in Auburn Indiana .

I seem to recall Pratte bought the Futureliner about 8-9 years ago at BJ auction. I think it went for 4.2 million at that time. I also understand he a had more work done on it. I could be wrong but I don't think he came out ahead on this one after sellers fees.

I imagine he did some work on it - I was there last time it sold and took some photos. Check out this huge crack in the upper left rear; it starts at the trim line, runs down and comes back up to the trim line again. Must be a stress point in the body:

Most amusing part for me was the winner was a phone bidder, thereby denying the viewers of what would have been a massive show of fawning over the buyer and telling him how wonderful he was. Showmanship abhors an anticlimax. So they fawned best they could over the next highest bidder!
