MCM Ohana

MCM Ohana (6/6)

  1. Left fuel rail completed. Fitting turbo pipe. Right side next. Oh joy
  2. Yes, seems to work out pretty good. Look at the real car at laguna seca. Engine right on the ground.
  3. Does anyone know a Keith Hartley in phoenix? Have not heard from him for years. He is very overweight so I hope he is ok. Great guy.
  4. Cool Noel, I also love the Aston and especially the jag. The Aston is just pure class and that jag, the lines are to die for. I was not chosen to do any of those either. But one day I will get the jag. And with any luck the Aston also. I get chosen to do modifications or paint changes on the big kits. Or if there is a problem. The Muira is a problem kit. You have to model that one. For us modelers it’s not a problem but for the guy just starting out, like some these rich computer guys that cannot use their hands, it’s a problem. For some reason the ford GT was a really good kit. I just kind of lucked out with these big kits. My favorite scale is 1/25-24 then 1/12. Kind of fell into luck with the big kits. This build will be a blast for me as I have wanted this kit for a long time. I had a problem comming up with the $500. So full price is really hard to do. I’m a normal guy with a normal income , so list price for these kits are very hard buy. Without my friend Mark, I would not be able to do this. Thank you Mark for everything.
  5. Hello Noel, it’s a Centauria kit. I believe agora bought them out. I have the whole kit. Agora is doing the subscription thing. Bought it at a great deal (although it’s still expensive) the retail price is around $2600 but I picked it up for $500. From a friend. I was hoping agora would let me build it, but it did not happen. Having the whole kit is an advantage for painting it. This is my holy grail 1/8 kit. I have built over 10 1/8 kits for DeAgostini and Agora. And they were free. So paying for 1 kit at substantial savings was not so bad. Still have 4 unbuilt 1/8 kits in the shed. Mercedes Gullwing, Mazda cosmo, pocher Ferrari testarossa, and a VW bug convertible. But those will have to wait until I build the GTO. Well my Mercedes is on a schedule…. Kind of . Painting the Mercedes and the GTO very soon.
  6. Hello guys, saw this. It’s beautiful but very, very expensive. Body only.
  7. A Ferrari GTO in 1/8. I have wanted this for a long time. The body has been stripped of paint and primed. Started sanding and taking out the imperfections in the body. The color will be a very beautiful blue I have mixed. Mixed toners till I liked it. Not a stock color. My own mix. Here we go.
  8. I needed this like I need a hole in my head. Bought a 1/8 1962 Ferrari GTO. Could not pass her up. I bought her cheap, (still expensive) at $500. She was started so the price drop. The car was stripped and primed. Still needs a little bodywork but not a big deal. Hopefully all the parts are here. (I will inventory soon. ) Painting her the blueish silver car. I will have to look up the actual name. This is the car I wanted for a long time. Thought Agora would have me build it but it did not work out that way. Cannot complain as they have given me a lot of kits for free. Mark is responsible for this. Thank you sir. So here we go on another 1/8 kit. The car of my dreams. IMG_9978.mov
  9. Working on the fuel system. Taking forever to finish. Fitting the left bank.
  10. Honestly they look pretty good. But I have had the same issues. I have some black wire I picked up somewhere (cannot remember where)cut that a little shorter than the spring, and insert it into the spring to keep her straight. It worked for me. But I think your springs look good just as they are. You’re using mfh parts. Chris Smith is right. I also have a tumbler for white metal parts. I clean up the lines or imperfections by sanding them, then put them in the tumbler. Cleans off all the mold release agents on the parts. I use an acid etch primer on all my white metal parts to bite into the metal. Then paint. Do not feel bad as one part may take hours to be the way you want it. I have spent over a year ( on and off) trying to finish my 917/30 engine. Still not finished. Just fitting the fuel system and misc parts on her. Taking a heck of a lot of time. So my friend, welcome to our insanity. Great job on your car. Here is a pic of my 917/30 engine.
  11. Yes Claude, the insurance was very expensive. It was $115 a month. Half the cost of the car for a year. I was working in the shop and making around $340 a week, since I lived at home, I paid rent and paid the insurance. My dad let me eat for free . That had to be a lot!LOL. When I graduated college, I moved out and sold the boss. Made a $500 on her. Bought a capri. Put a suspension on her and minilites. That was a cool car also, but not a boss. It did lower my insurance and gas bills.
  12. Beautiful sir just beautiful! Hope to see you this weekend. Picking up that big Ferrari GTO from Mark Friday. I hope it fits in my car! LOL
  13. DeAgostini has the gulf car. Not a bad build. In 1/8 it needs a little detail but if you do a little detail it looks pretty good. I was happy the way it came out. Not the big block car. This car was after the fia banned the big block cars at lemans. The corrections on the trumpeter kit will be a great build.
  14. Thank you Claude. It’s funny I’ve been restoring cars my whole life and am now just beginning to get a little tired of it. Still love them but getting a little tired. My dad said I would get tired of them one day. Well that was 35 years ago but he was right. Started doing bodywork at my dad’s shop in 1969.i remember sitting in a brand new 1969 boss 302 that was in the shop. Loved that car. Bought a 1970 boss 302 in 1973 for next to nothing because of the oil crisis. $2300. Boy did I get in trouble for that one. At 15 I had enough money to buy a car. Had $2500 saved since I was 10. Went to a place that sold used corvettes named Bob Shiroes. My friends older brother worked there. He called me and said there is a boss 302 in the back for $2300. So i rode my bike down there and bought it , drove it home , no license, no insurance, nothing. Boy was my dad mad. I was grounded for 6 months but had the cleanest car ever. 6 months of detailing that car!LOL
