heres one for art anderson to check out!

some years ago i bought an MGB GT resin body/transkit from AAM, in fact i may have bought it right from Art at the NNL West. then i met you at the next year NNL and told you i had started it, but never saw you again.

so knowing you read this forum, i thought i would drag it out of the case, along with a more or less OOB Monte Carlo Rally MG roadster that was essentally used for the base kit for the GT.

heres some pics i shot earlier today:

first, heres the pair of them on the workbench:

note that the GTs rear wheels are loose and are kind of

askew in the photos. i need to get under there and figure out

where to put the superglue!

so heres a front/side view of the GT.

i believe this would be a close up (perhaps TOO close up!)

of the dashboard and steering wheel...

finally, a shot of the monte carlo car, i did a good bit of

scratchbuilding and improvement on this car including realistically

lowering it approx 4 scale inches (though it probably ran at OOB height

in the actual rally, i cant help it, i like low cars!), interior features and

more that i cant remember:

let me know what you think, the body was nice and consistently thin,

pretty bubble free as i recall, but the interior bucket (or maybe it was just an extension you grafted to the kit interior pan?) i remember as a real

challenge to get to sit properly, but the thing came out very nice (by my

standards anyway).

Very cool! Don't see many of those GT's built up, and I know several people who really want 'em badly.

BTW, I made the master of the MGB GT for Art. Found a good sideview photo, developed orthographic drawings (top, side, front/rear), made a solid buck to vacuum form .060" styrene over it, then took the styrene part and fit to the convertible body, then cut out the windows and detailed. Fun process!

IIRC it was the first "Non-American" model by All American Models :D

I also need to build my other MGB CV kit...another model that Aoshima should reissue sometime. The racer you show is extremely rare as well.

i didnt know that. i believe i have at least one more unbuilt on the shelf and if im not mistaken my local hobby shop has (or had, recently) one on the shelf too.

it was a very nice body, zoom, very accurate from what i could tell. a friend of mine had a couple of GTs years ago that i really liked. i would have preferred a roadster myself but the GT had a certain charm all its own.

tonite i might photograph and post the pics of the rover/morgan/mg V8 motor i built to display next to the GT. it was a white metal kit from southeast finecast and very detailed.

I read your post when you first put it up--tried posting a reply right then, but for some reason it never showed up!

Cool build of a cool car--Bob Downie did a heckuva job on the master as well. I got a fair amount of ribbing over it, due to its being a "funny little furrin car" but it was reasonably well received, although I've not seen very many of them built up.

The MGB-GT resin was an outgrowth of something Roger Sill of American SatCo set up--he had Bob Downie make up a master for a left-hand-drive dash for the MGB kit he was importing, and put Bob in touch with me at Toledo--after some talk, and a bit of persuasion, Bob decided to try the GT body shell.

Like your build, BTW!

thanks for the comments art, i figured you would like to see it because i cant say as ive ever heard of anyone else actually building it.

ps: wish i had another GT body because i would love to build another but this time make it a rally version!
