Jim B Posted July 28, 2011 Share Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) So, I've managed to get a little bench time (not exactly sure how), and I've made some progress on my 1974 Kenworth W900. It's basically a "box stock" build with some tweeks. I stripped the chrome off the tanks, and painted them to match the frame. The only things I've added so far are the filter decals on the frame mounted fuel filters, and the "Alcoa Wheels" logos to the wheels. Thanks for looking! Good choice for the fuel tanks as well, sometimes just a little chrome is all it takes. What is the cab color going to be? Is it going to be owner-operator style or fancy fleet? I'm going to stick with the Caterpiller 3408, though. As for the kit, it's not bad. I like it so far. The fit of some of the engine components is poor, the air bags on the suspension & the air tanks have hollow backs, and the cab/hood/sleeper is molded in the dreaded red plastic. The fit of the frame was good, and the chrome on my kit was good. All in all, it's been a nice build. This is my first Revell of Germany kit, so it's been a learning process from the usual AMT kits. Do you think the hood on this kit is long enough to make it fit??? I think it might, since a big 6 from Cat or Cummins fit, but I'm not that certain. Man, I'm almost excited about it! Since I'm goinf to be using Tamiya paint on this one, and not Dupli-Color automotive paint, I'm thinking bleed through won't be an issue either. Well, at least I'm hoping! One question I have, does Kenworth have all white engines like Peterbilt? You painted your 3408 white so it got me wondering. Have you done stuff since the 9th? Are you sticking with that white and blue paint job? I saw the actual truck in the pictures on something similar to Youtube, it's awesome, what a nice oldie! Just don't remember which site it's on though. You should hear that thing running, it got the hair on my arms to stand on end! So you got me going on this one, I bought the same kit, odered a Detroit 12V71, cab guard and tool boxes from AITM, got some Dark Green and Gold Seminole decals from Model truck parts and I got all my stuff to start. Cab is going to be white with a dark green frame and tan beige interior. I'm going to try and use the front axle and wheels from the International 4300 to have poseable front wheels and the rear axles and wheels as well. We'll see where it goes from there. I'm stoked!
