  1. Before I got pressure and vac pots, I used a 6' cable, one end looped around a bolt, hung a tin can on the other end, placed the mold inside with 10-minute cure resin and gave it a good twirl for a couple minutes. No bubbles. A friend now has my pots and does all my casting for me: www.amsresin.com.
  2. I built this in 1986 from two '55 Nomad and two '53 Corvette kits. I found this thread because I just bought one of these via eBay so was searching for info on this Corvette Impala.
  3. Thanks for the compliments. It will be on the workbench for awhile though I will continue pecking away at it. I worked on the interior last night, scavenged parts from the Corvette kits to make the door handles and electric window switches. Posts will be random ... but will come when relevant.
  4. I ordered two versions of the reprise 'Vettes from Perry's in May. Are they here yet? Rhetorical question. Has he answered my emails? Another rhetorical question. The only positive is that he has never deposited my check; one way to keep track, at least. Caveat emptor.
  5. I'm in the midst of bashing an AMT 1951 Chev Fleetline into a tribute to 50 years of Chev, 1951 meets 2001 (with some 1955 and 2005 'Vette). Body sectioned at beltline; top chopped and converted to hardtop style; interior is mostly 1951 with 2005 Corvette instruments; chassis and running gear is all 2001+2005 Corvette with V-12 engine bashed from the 2001+2005 engines (thus the Corsa V-12 moniker). Upholstery pattern was printed on white fabric with Epson ink jet printer (not shown in the photos, installed since). Extensive mods include moving the firewall back to enable the engine to fit; shortening and sectioning the interior; combining the two 'Vette chassis and drivetrains to lengthen the wheel base to fit the Fleetline body; removing the exterior trim and adding custom trim using Evergreen .020" square; inserting the 1955 'Vette grill; frenching the headlight buckets (headlights will be projectors with halos); inserting the 2001 'Vette rear facia; gas tank made from two '55 Nomad tanks added; forward half of greenhouse from AMT 1951 Bel Air kit (as the Fleetline windshield didn't lend itself to blend into hardtop style). To maintain an impression of the '51 style, the hood is scratch built using RenShape and Evergreen stock. Photos are of beta fit, build is still in progress.
  6. I finally found one of the correct 57 Safari resin kits and got it. Not too bad a kit.
  7. How about a Phantom build in the Nomad style, 1957 El Morocco Khayal, Modelhaus resin with AMT Nomad greenhouse.
  8. Great models, Brian. Love those Scarabs. I have the MkIV kit, haven't built it. I have two of the Strombecker Scarab MkI 24th motorized kits plus one unbuilt "pristine in the box" that I just got today, snagged it on eBay. So pristine, in fact, that none of the parts have ever been removed from the box and the decal sheet looks fairly good but obviously aged. Photo attached of the two built models. The one with the decals was gotten off eBay already built, done straight from the box, side pipes are as in the unbuilt kit I just got. I built the dark blue one about 1964, glued the top and bottom halves together and filled the seam then cut out the bottom at about where the body would meet the chassis. I don't know where the side pipes came from, nor why no decals or why the two back tires are drag slicks. Toomanyyearsheimers.
  9. Does a stretched van qualify? Made from two AMT Vandura kits. Engine is 525ci Chev V-12 (made from combining two 350 V-8 Mouse Motors, 6-cyl from each block). Yes, it is languishing "unfinished." This was inspired by a both a Ford Econoline regional bus I saw in Idaho years ago (July 1971) and a stretched Corvair Greenbriar that had a Rat Motor mounted backwards in the back driving through a '66 Corvair transaxle (circa 1978).
  10. I know the photos on Resin Realm show the Pontiac body, but those showing up on eBay have the Chev body. I've gotten several resin kits via Resin Realm but have been informed they are out of the '57 Safari, don't know when they will be back in stock. I snagged a '57 Safari from eBay, not the R&R casting, don't know the source. Has the Nomad script on the tailgate, nothing else for parts, just the body. Photo attached.
  11. Hey, Chuck Most, I'm a newbie ... I'll catch on that "MCM Ohana" is a posting level, not a forum member. Duh Oh!
  12. MCM Ohana, I love that '15 center-door T rat rod. Awesome! I presume it has a periscope for the driver ... Ha! Everyone else ... great models. As for me, too many kits, not enough time. But, here are a few of my Waldorf Nomad bash. Two AMT '55 Nomads, one each AMT and Monogram '53 Vette, plus some scratch built parts. Engine is the Stovebolt with Vette tri-carbs and split manifold (like I had on my 1:1 '51 Bel Air). Love that sound! The trim is done with Identicolor rub-down transfers from my 4x artwork, ditto the Nomad plate.
  13. Le'me see ... you are in Australia and your models are LEFT HAND DRIVE?! Hey, wha' hoppen' to RHD?! And here I thought I was being really cool when I (a) bought an RHD '67 VW 114 and ( built several models with RHD ... and me being in the hew-hes-hay even! Seriously, great models you've done mate! Thanks for showing off your work.
  14. I ordered an R&R 1957 Pontiac Safari from an eBay seller (April 10, 2011). The photo with the listing was small enough I did not see that the body was a 1957 Chev Nomad, not the Safari. I did find that unwelcome surprise when I opened the package. A recheck of the listing (I make a pdf of every listing from which I order) confirmed the photo shows the Chev body, not the Pontiac. I returned the kit for a refund (which the seller timely remitted). Just now, I see what is essentially the same listing from a different seller. My inspection of the photo of the listing appears to be the same Chev body with '57 Pontiac grill and bumpers ... which obviously do not fit the Chev body. So it appears R&R is representing a '57 Nomad as a '57 Safari. Let the buyer beware.
