Moderator question: Plastic kits with metal bodies

No, I guess not.

This section was added specifically for people who either collect diecasts like Danbury Mint, Franklin Mint, Hot Wheels, Tonka, Matchbox, etc.... or who take those models and modify them. Or both. So the emphasis here is on the diecast aspect, because working with cast metal kits presents challenges that "normal" plastic kits don't.

I think a kit that is all plastic except for the body can go in the "regular" model car sections–but of course it can also go here.

Sometimes it's a judgement call. ;)

I'd say if they were sold as kits, they should go in the model cars section.

If they were ready made, they should go here.

Oops, where does this leave my Bolander Impala?

I posted a kit '68 Chevelle diecast kit here in the Diecast section and it got virtually no attention at all.

I posted a diecast '70 GTX on which I'd laid several hours of model-fu skills in the Under Glass section, where it got a lot of attention and many favorable comments. And then it got moved down here to Diecasts and no one's seen it since. :(

So I guess by the rules in this thread, I can post my Revell diecast kit American Graffiti '55 Chevy and Bullitt Mustang and Charger in the Under Glass section. Good to know. Looks like I can also repost the '68 Chevelle kit up there "legally," too (unless a moderator wants to just move that post). Come to think of it, I have '68 and '69 Camaros and a '66 GTO built from metal-body kits, too.

I have quite a few "modeled on" and improved diecasts along the same line as that '70 GSX, but I'm not going to waste time photographing and posting them to the Diecast section, as it seems that the kind of person who looks at this section doesn't care about such things. Sigh.

It's a shame, because that Welly Diecast Buick GSX is ten times nicer than that naff casualty by Monogram.

What I liked best about it is, it's 1/25, not 1/24, and looks right at home on the shelf with my other 1/25 GM A-body cars.

If someone liked GSXs a lot more than I do and wanted a 1/25 one, I think you could prolly put this body on a detailed plastic A-body chassis and have a real nice model. The Welly diecast even has an engine and I think you could even use at least some of the parts of that, too.

Except for the old Hubley kits about all the diecast kits are all plastic with metal bodies. I think about every diecast kit was originally a built diecast first.

I would think it should be based on what the body is made of to make it simple. All the diecast should be here. It would not make sense that if I buy a built diecast and modify it would go here and If I bought the same car in a kit form it would go in the kit section.

The more that get posted in this section, the better it will be.

My experience with posting my '68 Chevelle and '70 GSX leads me to believe that this section and the plastic sections above have two completely different audiences, with little crossover between the two. I think most of the plastic modelers never bother to look down here, because a great deal of the diecast subject matter (lotta classics, antiques, and so forth) and even scales (1/18, 1/64, etc.) are of no interest to them.

They may respond in the other section out of courtesy but the lack of interest is still there.

The comments on my GSX didn't sound like they were "out of courtesy" to me. That thing got more comments than several nice plastic models I've posted up there, and people seemed to really like the thing.

OTOH, my Chevelle, into which I had to put a LOT of work, got exactly ONE comment down here.

Have you seen the two models I'm talking about? Not hard to find, they're both still right here on the "front page" of this section (the GSX was eventually moved by a mod). I'm pretty sure you weren't the ONE guy who commented on my Chevelle.

I don't get here every day, sometimes it may be a few weeks. I did just look at them and your write up is much better on the Buick creating more interest. The Buick is not as common as the Chevelle and may of been a factor.

But, there is no doubt more people are going to see in the plastic section.
