Jaguar man 21
Magazines and books are defanilty an important source for ideas but I also like to look on auto auction websites for good detail photos and new ideas
Ace-Garageguy
Just from being car crazy since I can remember, and building, racing, rodding and restoring them for over 50 years. I have enough ideas and build notes to easily last me another 50 years. Sometimes the weirdest things pop into my mind, like today while driving, I noticed the butt of a particular Asian high-end import would look really cool as a '32 roadster-esque lowboy. Fat Brian
Some are things I've seen in person, some are customs I've researched, but most are just the way I would build it if I had the money.
LDO
I had a weird idea that was inspired by a hot wheels car. The Twin Mill got me thinking of twin mid engines with the front of the car looking something like the old Wolfrace Sonic show car. The engines would a pair of superdetailed Cosworth DFVs from the 1/8 scale Lotus 72D. The tail end could just be tube chassis and drive train. Maybe '70s-style wing in polished aluminum. Cockpit could have a speedster windshield that wraps around, or a bubble with "solid" top to keep inside temps down.

MsDano85gt
You know its bad when I was "off" today went to some salvage yards trying to see if anyone had a vehicle that would have a match to my factory amp that junked out...... no luck one of the yards let me go walk around looking for the saturns on the list....... it just so happened there was a random complete door glass mirror and all leaning up on a vehicle...... i knew what the door was off from a distance yet i got a closer look anyways I was correct Foxbody mustang door..... dosn't help that i have owned 2 of them i suppose that door was just sitting there like a model kit part thats all 1:1 is really one giant model kit with more parts n pcs lol when i do jobs at the body shop seeing all the parts tore down bumper covers draped here and there I just think to myself i'd maybe be good at that job dismantling and reassembling! Ramfins59
I've gotten ideas from magazines and seeing certain cars on the Internet. I usually try to put my own spin on a project after getting the initial "spark" from something that I've seen.

jbwelda
this place right here can be very inspiring to tell the truth; so is going to a major league model show like the NNL West. but pretty much I get my ideas from stuff I come across in real life somehow. jb

ZTony8
Magazine articles(old and recent),books, car shows, model contests, this forum, and brainstorms(does that constitute water on the brain?) all are project influences for me.
JTalmage
Movies, TV, Youtube, Hot Rod Magazine (only magazine I read anymore), random cars on google images, experiences in my daily life (drag strip, on the street, friends cars, etc), and my own junk in the driveway. Plus I see a lot of cool stuff on here that gets my gears turning. I went on a hot rod buying spree towards the end of last year because of all the period correct vintage builds here... Roadrunner
To be candid, I'm not a real idea person. Most of what I envision is little more than variations of existing ideas and concepts. Sad, but that's the reality of it.

om617
I like some automotive trends,i dont see that i could do something original by myself. What inspired me to start with models was stumbling upon this forum,so in a way it`s the people on here who give me ideas.
Roadrunner
That's what designers do! Very true. No need to redesign the wheel, as it were. Still, some folks are naturally more creative than others, and I'm not one of them.
