85-4015-lg.jpg Ok I was lurking on revells website this morning and saw it is coming out this month it may be shipping as I write this for all I know. Anybody built this car when it came out before? I see it has a whole 48 parts. I assume it is curbside

model. Would that be a correct guess?

It's not a curbside, but it was originally a snap-tite model-- a high end snap-together model-- which has a full, separately molded exhaust system, front and rear suspension, bucket seats, and so on. The engine is a bit simplified, with maybe five parts total, but the dual snorkel intakes and air cleaner are HUGE, so they cover most of what you can see with the hood open.

I guess I'd say this kit is a complex snap-together kit or a semi-simplified glue kit, but the body is very nice, and with basic detail painting and clean assembly, it ends up being a very nice looking model.

You could also swap in the engine from the 86-87 Monte Carlo, the optional engine is the correct Tuned Port V8 for this car.

The issue lies with the fact this kit was originally released as an '83 Z/28 and had the L-?? induction with the dual snorkel air cleaner. I think there are a few options available in 1/24 as far as TPI is concerned, and Revell is about to reissue the '91 Firebird Formula kit, too.

I'm trying to remember the eighties Camaro timeline, my friend had an 86 Z-28 and it had a TPI 305. I believe that the 350 TPI was introduced in 87. In 83 it could either have the 305 Crossfire fuel injection motor or the 305 HO carb motor. The Crossfire was discontinued in 84 and the TPI 305 was introduced in 85 and the 305 HO carb motor was still available. Either motor would be correct since the 305 and 350 are indistinguishable in scale.

The compareitively rare late-1985 IROC with the 350 had T.P.I. , whereas the majority of Camaros / Firebirds had the (yucky) 305 with either a Q-Jet (electronic , smog-laden nightmare of a carburetor !) or the "not-quite-there" T.B.I.

Lots of absurdities within G.M. during the reign of "I could care less" Roger Smith  .

I forget which years exactly , but some of these had ambre-coloured turn signal / hazard tail-lamps ; and I believe that this kit originally had its tail-light lenses moulded in clear , a much easier provision versus silver backup lamps and solid-orange turn signal lamps

(a pet peeve of mine : Solid-cast , all-red tail lamp lenses and/or chrome backup lamp lenses / headlights / or any lights which are clear in 1:1 , but are chrome in scale , are irritating !)

Casey, the pic above has to be for one of the carb 305s, the Crossfire intake looks nothing like that and the later TBI 305s had a single snorkel. The engine in the kit is most likely correct for all years until they stopped using carbs after the 86 model year.

The older 1982 version of this kit had the crossfire intake.

I wasn't sure if the Simon & Simon '83 Z /28 became the '85 or not, but here's that kit:

IIRC, Monogram did only Snap Tites of 3rd gen Camaros in 1:24th, while their Firebirds of that era were full-detail. There was also another Snap Tite issue of an '82 before the S&S version, also in red on the box art?

I've never had any of the Monogram 3rd gen Camaros, but have all the MPC/AMT ones in my stash...may have to pick up the reissue.

Yep, I have one here somewhere. I`ll see if I can find it and snap a pic. I like the front end on this one much better than the `85 (the `82 has the "Camaro" lettering in the front center and the two fog lights on either side) , and it looks as though it will build up pretty convincingly for a Snap kit.
