78 Ford Pulling Truck / Update 2/25/15

Recommended Posts

This is my current project, 78 Ford Firestone kit by AMT. I don't have the skills that most of you do so don't be to critical, lol. Never mind the tail lights, they are not done.

Of course it's built from a few kits and some scratch building.

Here is it's current state, updates to follow. Thanks for checking it out.

Very cool! I've always said this kit is a perfect candidate for a pulling truck! I have a '72 Chevy puller project from long ago. This may give me the motivation to get back in on it.

That 72 Chevy would be a great pulling truck, would like to see it. Dig that thing out and jump in!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Hey guys,

Here is a small update on the truck. I mocked up the engine and transmission where I wanted them, made the weight box and added the sled stops in the rear. Body is ready for paint but haven't really decided on a color yet, thinking a dark gray or the like. Also, not happy with the bed cover, probably going to use a thin piece of black vinyl.

Never mind the tape, it's to hold the grill on, lol!

Hope you like the pics. Thanks for looking, negative comments are welcome.

Another small update, got the engine detailed, put the rear hitch on with the height adjustment and got the truck in primer. Waiting to paint the frame until I can find a suitable fuel tank for the front. I have a few but they are too small, just doesn't look right. Any of you guys have an idea of a scale tank I could use?

The Madd Mudder kit has a beer keg converted into a fuel tank, it's much bigger than the small drag tanks you usually see. The kit its very expensive but someone used to cast the tank, maybe post a thread in the resin section about it. The Ninja Turtles and Jurrasic Attack monster truck kits also come with a modern fuel cell that woud be appropriate for this build.
