Old Sprinter
I've been asked to make an 1/8 scale model of a 1/4 scale midget model that Bob McCoy built years ago. This car sells for $12,500 currently. It is very well done and will be a good challenge to make something close to his in a smaller scale. Old Sprinter
About two years ago I built an 1/8 scale Edmunds midget from original plans. I made two fiberglss bodies and sent one to the Madd Fabricator. He made a mold from that body and sent me the first fiberglass cast from that mold. That body fits the 1/8 midget frame that TDR offers. They also offer wheels, tires, the 110 Offy motor and and this body from the Madd Fabricator. It is a 60s Edmunds midget and this is a Kurtis Kraft car from the early 50, late 40s with a Ford V8/60 motor. So I had to modify the body by taking a scale 4" off the length and making the cockpit area more open. Then build a period correct frame to fit it. my80malibu
Now that looks like an excellent candidate for 3-D printing
Old Sprinter
This could be a 3D printed model. Here's a picture of an 1/8 scale midget frame done with a 3D printer, sitting next to the body they also sell. This frame is from the 60s and it's an Edmunds style. My model is of an older car so I'll be making all the parts from scratch. I won't mind building one of those printed cars sometime.
Old Sprinter
I've almost got the Ford V8/60 midget engine completed and finished the front axle assembly. I still have to chrome the front end like the big model. Check out those ancient disc brakes. Good thing these cars were light wieght. Old Sprinter
Well, I'm back on the midget, getting it finished up. Paint job was horrible so I'm doing that over but she's up on wheels and the seat is almost done, etc.,etc.. Old Sprinter
Thanks Dave; I gave it another try and it came out close enough. Painting is a different animal than building and I have not come close to mastering it. I'm getting better at seat covers though.LOL
Old Sprinter
It's done except for the decals.
