What scale is it?

And did you use base and clear? and did you buff?

And one more and I'll go away.

What paint product is it?

Thanks,

David

John, Since Dave, Bill, an Lyle have split, you an Pete seem to be carrying this forum when it comes to flat out OUTSTANDING builds! No wonder some of the new guys feel intimidated! I KNOW your not TRYIN to, but your builds just DO IT!!! It's just amazing what you can do with plastic. It's guys like you's who inspire me! After all these years, I STILL can't do what I've seen you guys do!!!! ANOTHER fine BEAUTIFUL build. THANKS for sharein it!!!biggrin.gifwink.gif

Well..uh...as the Brits would say, "I'm gobsmacked." I don't know how this could possibly be done better – it's a true museum piece, as good as any 1:8 Pocher build I've seen, spectacular in every way. You have turned your nightmare into a dream car.

You can't walk away from this kind of work because it was difficult. If you decide to build other 1:16 classics, such as the Rolls Phantom II or Phantom III, the Mercedes SS Kabriolet or the Jaguar SS 100, I'll be happy to send you CD files with truly massive reference material for each of them. I would be very excited to see what you do with any of them.

Question:

Did you use special materials for the upholstery and the top covering?

the top has the "Fabric look" already molded into it. im looking at my kit right now.

EDIT: i have only seen this car in 2 colors, the triple black (like john built) and a maroon brick color, what is a more accurate color? i haven't built many pre-war cars(i maybe built 1 or 2), so this kit is almost a first for me.

John, absolutely beautiful! This is one of my favorite years of the V16 Cadillac. I built the Italeri Al Jolson car which unfortunately got destroyed in a move, so I have to build another. Once again, your build and the photography make it hard to distinguish it from the real thing.

As these cars were custom-built, you could have any color you wanted, but black, maroon, dark blue, dark green and perhaps white are the most appropriate colors.

John- GREAT job!

Hey John,

Sure was pleasantly surprised when I saw this, just a great job, something quite different from you, but I love it. Any tips on how you painted the wood, that really turned out nice. Hey, the girlfriend had good taste in classic cars!! Thanks as always for posting for us!

John, what is RM clear 3 part? Can you give a little more info? Thanks Mike

Mike.......the formula for the clear is.........RM DC-5800 clear, RM UR50 reducer......and I use H.O.K. KU-150 catalyst........4 parts clear,1 part catalyst,1 part reducer.......when I do wood grain.......I use "Michael's" arts and crafts acrylic water base paints.......the brand is "Folk Art".......89 cent bottles.......you need white, dark brown, light brown , and black..........first you paint the piece white and let dry........then paint over that with the light brown.......let that dry .......then I dry brush the dark brown......let dry ......then I dry brush the black.......then I clear coat with Tamiya.........hope I helped.
