dartman Posted July 10, 2014 Share Posted July 10, 2014 I'd like to see the '58 Olds wagon (first photo) as a kit. I drove a '68 Vista Cruiser through part of college. The first kit pictured, a '40 Ford Sedan Delivery, is listed as a woodie? I guess it's like people who don't know the difference between a hardtop and a sedan, or a roadster and a convertible. I had a Buick sport wagon that is just like the vista cruiser with the windows in the roof.It always thought it odd having a set of sun visors for the back seat was a great car. The body's pretty good, but the details are all off. Horrible mold seams. Minicraft also issued this same 1/24 "woodie" version with a typo on the box saying it's 1/16 scale. The "wood" parts are stickers that look just as bad as you see on this lousy painting. Otherwise, it's the same as the stock kit. They were made alongside a 1957 Ford Wagon which is the body from Jimmy Flintstone . These cars had no interior and came without back in 1957 without chrome parts or clear windshields . They were later sold in 5-.10 stores , ( Roses ,G C Murphy's , WT Grant's and Woolworth's ) as un assembled , usually retailing for about .98c. This is a resin copy of the Plymouth . I have one of theirs in my stash. Many years ago there was one of these wagons for sale at a short lived antique auto store in Red Bank, NJ. I went to look at it, and they had done a seriously bad repaint, badly masking off the chrome. You could see old paint and the rust creeping out from under the bright strips. And there was over spray on the chrome too. And they wanted real money for a car that I would immediately strip down to paint, so I walked away. Also, AMT produced a 1961 Buick Special station wagon in both promo and 3in1 kit form, as well as the 1962 Chevy II wagon. AMT produced both 1964 and 65 Chevelle station wagons as well. Art The Buick Special was '61 and '62; the Nova was only made in '63 (later reissued as a Craftsman, then ruined to make the Boss Nova F/C). As to the Hubley Ford wagons, I've seen a photo from Ford that showed their new '63 promotionals - and one was a wagon. I'm figuring it was custom made for the display, as no others have ever shown up... PMC, of course, made the Ford Country Sedan from '55-'59; if you're lucky you can find a '59 molded in styrene.
