RodBurNeR
I would be lying if I didn't totally think I blew it today. I am being honest when I say that the whole day was GREAT! However , I got pretty choked up during the awards and fumbled up because I got nervous. I am human, so I guess.... I didn't think it would be so hard to talk about Elden Titus and the meaning behind the award to be presented? I could not do it. I want to thank Ellis Kendrick for being there to help me out. He took over and did a great speach on behalf of the club and explained very nicely how Elden was and what it was to get the award in our eyes. Thank you Ellis, I don't think I could have said it better (even if I had not choked) Being my second year in running a contest/now an NNL, I guess I didn't do too bad...but I am feeling pretty hard on myself because of the awards flub up's. Not laying a pitty party down....I just don't feel right acting like it was a breeze. Not only did Ellis step in on the microphone, but Tom Cowles and Russ (last name?) from the KC Slammers were a great help! Tom helped me count ballots which made it go much faster, thanks Tom you are a pal! Russ helped out with the decision as to who should get the Elden Titus Memorial plaque. It was unanymous to choose John Smiley's '62 Thunderbird Custom. The car was the best out of all to be what Elden would have liked concerning "construction, profile, style and execution". Congrats John! Best in show, Best Detail and Best in Theme went to Alyn Lyon for his '32 Ford, CONGRATS! We had a lower number in entries compared to last year, down by about 30. That is understandable with the economy. I did get higher hopes , but I can hope for next year......SO I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! PHOTOS.... http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...ic-plastics-nn/ Tom Cowles, glad ya made it!
Alyn
I wanted to correct Bob's spelling of my last name. It's Loya, not Lyon. I walked away with more trophy's than I ever expected at the Drastic Plastic Omaha NNL, but just as important, I also found out first hand what a hard working guy Bob Black is. Every time I turned around, he was putting on another hat. One minute he was registering new contestants; then you'd see him going from table to table shooting contest pics. He was also responsible for posed photo shoots in the rear of the room for some selected cars. You'd also see him meeting and greeting all sorts of folks at the show and around the swap meet. This guy's got a ton of energy and just about single handedly kept the whole show running. My hat's off to him. This kind of selfless hard work behind the scenes and on the front lines allows the rest of us to do what we love to do. Thanks Bob!
