RodneyBad Posted March 30, 2010 Author Share Posted March 30, 2010 Right now I only have 4 tires, so far ;) The hardest part so far was figuring out if I was gonna extend the stock Frame, Use the Ford Louisville chassis(1/25), the Revell Peterbilt 359(1/25) or Find a 1/24 scale BigRig. Now to decide if I use the Big Rig cummins or the stock 460 V-8. Or................................. Just tossing an Idea out there to be the First. I have this 1:1 Ford F350 Dually 4X4 and the axle is under the springs. Not a great pic, but this is the front axle and spring: It's definitely not close to what you're building , but in it's former life it was a wrecker! The previous owner owned a towing company and after it's life of towing, he removed the wrecker body and put the stock dually bed on it. The only telltale signs that it didn't come from Ford this way is the "Incomplete vehicle manufactured by Ford" sticker inside the door and the 6 inch gap between the cab and bed! highway Posted March 30, 2010 Share Posted March 30, 2010 you need to add a nice 4-wheeler in the back of the CR-V & then add an off road Segway to the four-wheeler. That way, you can get progressively deeper into the wilderness. only thing i see as an issue could be height. with a load floor between 5-6 feet, anything payload taller than 6-7 feet is asked for trouble. You don't wanna end up like this guy: article from NY times about above pic He just wanted a convertible! A friend of mine that I used to work with did something similar to his trailer, didn't cause damage like that, but lost the entire fiberglass roof panel from his trailer. After he got back to the warehouse we drove for, I didn't believe he hit a bridge, I couldn't see any damage to the trailer at all. That is, until he opened the back doors and all I seen were the roof support ribs and sky! He became the inspiration for my next build: By the way, please DO NOT be offended by the name on the trailer, it was not meant that way! My friend is very secure with his Polish hertitage and originally only did it as an office joke while all us drivers were drinking our morning coffee, but he loved it so much he took it home! I caught some electrical wires with the corner of my trailer and broke a telephone pole that landed on my trailer, along with the live wires, in addition to two other poles that broke down the street! Stock Big Rig chassis and axles with Mudder tires and a spare 4x4 front axle. May have to upgrade the front axle, a Ford Dana 60 may not be big enough. Thanks for the Pics Matthew, But dang is it Rustic. If I did Duallies, I'll need another set of Boggers or maybe go Super Duper Singles. You would think if the guy thought the clearance wasn't great, he would've slowed down as he went under. Guess he was in a Big Hurry, well, not no more. Thanks Michael, The bed will be 7ft wide 16ft long and the height with a crawler will be, uhmm? Well, as long has I keep the load under 14ft, I'll be good. (in theory) Firstees Glad I'm not the only one that watches it. MrZinn, If I can find a 1/24 truck I'm gonna swap it out. The 1/25 truck frame looks a little underscale under it. With these tires, I can find enough to finish with 2 axles and Duellies. Or keep with plan A? Or plan A.2 Ford with the Semis Sleeper? Don't forget the heavy duty 4X4 axle someone metioned from Sourkraut's. Then more Boggers and mix Plan C and make Plan A.3-the Ford with duallies! I'll have to make the Suspension adjustable to make sure all 6 (at least) tires touch the ground at the same time. Don't get a worse headache researching the engine! It is a Cat 3406. I try and think of what everybody has done and do something else Crazier I'm sure I've seen a Built Semi 6x6 Monster truck some where now that I think about it. Sooo. No Semi Cab. But. This will be the plan this, but.... With or without the sleeper? use it has a toolbox or has a sleeper? If I use the sleeper, I'll extend the wheelbase 3ft (1 1/2 inches) to center the 2 axles under the load.
