ScaleCentral
I have two on the way! Yippee! Studio27 and Dexter are doing PE for it. I believe there will also be a transkit for the LeMans testing version. Hope someone does the 2007 graphics. As for the engine bits, stay tuned. vwdave92
I picked up several of these kits from Wonderlandmodels in England right before the ALMS came to Road America in Wisconsin. Normally I would have waited to support the LHS but with a real chance for autographs I just couldn't wait. One of the two scheduled autograph signings got canceled so I was only able to get on box and two floor pans autographed. But... Pierro and Warner spent a few minutes looking over the kit and decale sheet (after emptying the box on the signing table holding up the entire line ). Apparently none of the drivers had seen the kit to this point. All four drivers said it looked great and the decal sheet was accurate to the 2006 cars. They really got a kick out of seeing it. So anyway... hopefully here are some pictures of the kit and autographs Hopefully the picture links work I have a couple extra kits if someone wants one before they are imported Dave

Ariel
I wish I had one when I went to this years race at LimeRock. For $17.00 it is an excellent kit and cheaper then the one I got.

Randy
They're out in Canada too, got them in the shop today. Very nice kit, may need to clear the bench for this one.
Don Sikora II
I had one on back order from Tower Hobbies, the mailman delivered it Friday. Only had a chance for a quick look so far, but it looks nice.
vwdave92
Are these the one I keep hearing called Panzers? Yes. The cars are often called "panzers" as a sort of unofficial nick name. It's dirived from the tanks the Germans used in WWII. Very VERY fast compared to the Allied tanks and no less deadly. Seeing these cars in person is truely amazing but hearing them is something different all together. They make almost no noise. At wide open under full load they produce just under 100db of noise. Almost all the sound you hear is the rush of air hiss turbos... almost jet like. Dave
Dave Van
Got my kit today....these are BIG cars!! Just happy to have a new road racer model. How much difference is there between the LM car as the kit is shown and the ALMS version we see stateside. I am goning through pics....but I know someone out there has looked already!! vwdave92
The ALMS car and the cars that raced the 24hours of LM are the same cars. There is no Euro version of the car. The most difficult or challenging part of the kits will be matching the paint. There are signifigant differences in this year and last year. Most of the dark grey that comes as decals in the kit is flat back this year. Also the cars were often diferentiated by yellow, black and red "headrest" section. This was done away with for the ALMS cars. The story goes it was more superstition than anything else. Seems the car with the yellow headrests never had an outright win. Anyway... the color schemes on this years ALMS cars are all the same. Just the numbers and drivers names are different. I would guess when the SMS superdetail kit is ready we'll see a few different decal packages to go along with it. The kit is based on the 2006 24hr LM winner. According to the drivers the decals included in the kit are accurate to that race. HTH Dave
Dave Van
Thanks for that info Dave. From the photos of this years ALMS cars some decal work is the biggest part of the project. I can handle that as long as the ALPS don't break!!! Thanks again!!!
ScaleCentral
I would guess when the SMS superdetail kit is ready we'll see a few different decal packages to go along with it. SMS will not be doing any detail sets for this kit. Right now, the official releases are Studio27 doing a PE set and Dexter Models doing a PE set along with an early test resin transkit. There will be more I'm sure. I have heard that S27 has thought about doing decals as well. Renaissance may be doing the 2007 decals, too. Once I get my hands on one of the kits, I will see what all is needed to make it a killer project. Hopefully I can add to the mix some. vwdave92
Nic The SMS website shows a "builders kit" for the car priced at $110 but no other details as to what is included in the kit. Do you know if any of the planned PE parts are available yet? I'm going to be doing a number of these kits trying some different things on each one. I want to get the build down and all the detail painting and such before I do the builds around the autographed floor pans. I would be more than willing to help you develop parts etc for the kits. Dave Dave the builders kit from SMS is a resin Lemans Miniatures kit with added parts from SMS. Just like his previous projects that had Tamiyas Porsche 962 and his carbon fiber and aluminium pcs. For the price I think the Revell kit is the best bang for the buck it has an engine and SMS doen't.

I was thinking maybe it would be a "super detail" kit like the one for the Enzo or something along those lines. I'll just have to keep an eye out for the Studio27 PE. OK... back to my bench now Dave

Dave Dave, The Le Mans Miniature kit is far superior to the Revell kit (in my opinion), even though it doesn't have an engine. The proportions and the body are more accurate than the Revell kit. The SMS produced the decals, the photoetch, the instruction sheet and the box art for the LMM kit. He has also collaborated on the LMM Pescarolo C60. I have pictures of my LMM R10 in the gallery if you'd like to take a look. I will be doing the Revell kits at some point; I can see a lot of potential in the kit. The downside is that only one version of the car is able to be done. Maybe someone will do some aftermarket decals and a better engine bay. Dave The Builder Kit is the LMM kit. I have one of those. You can see it at Fotki Review. It is really nice. I have heard that there will be a few differences in the SMS and the LMM version though like a small addition to the decals and a couple of PE pieces. I do have two of the Audis on order and they should be here either late this week or early next. I'm going on vacation at the end of the month, so if I do get around to doing something, it will be October. S27 will release theirs in late September or October. I'm unsure of Dexters as they are redoing their website. Here's a sneak peak though of the first item I will be offering to the public from my little workshop.
