I got this Lindberg/Model King kit today as a early Birthday Present. It looks very nice kit to me and I bet it can be turned out very nice. With my skills, the end result won't be perfect, but I'm trying my best with it.

I started building today. When I test fitted the kit tires (What I always do first), I realized that they are way too small. But luckily, the solution was easy- I have few packs of Plastic Performance Products' NASCAR tires and wheels, bought from Daytona Beach, Florida. Just next to the Speedway! So I decided to go with them this time.

Also I started the bodywork, a little sanding was required, but not too much anyway. There were only four mold lines, what were easy to remove. Then I sprayed some primer on it. Tomorrow we can see if I can already paint the body... Also I painted all engine parts, tomorrow will start assembling!

This Is The Starting Point.

Thanks Guys!

Those wheels and tires are really great, wheels have even the bolt and lug nut molded so that they can be painted with different shades of silver. ;)

Well personally I'm more Chevy guy, but Mopars are very cool too. Especially these Stock Cars and Drag Racers.

Here's some more.

I started the engine assembly. It went together very well, not any kind of problems so far. I added the spark plug wires too, next I need to continue assembling more parts like the carburetor and belt & Pulleys. Also I managed to get the Wheels And Tires done. I sanded those tire treads first, then installed wheels. I painted the lug nuts bright silver, center caps and bolts are bit darker silver. Tire textes came from Plastic Performance Products, too.

Door panels had a lot of Ejector marks. I sanded them down, and put little putty there, so everything will be smooth after a coat of primer.

Looks like your off to a great start! Thanks for posting the side by side pics of the PPP tires! I just ordered a bunch of stuff from David myself (PPP) and can't wait to get it! He's an injection mold maker by trade and all his parts are polystyrene (other than the tires) and he captures the detail just right!

Thanks Ben!

Yes those wheels and tires are excellent quality, when I saw them at Daytona Racing Hobbies & Souvenirs right next to the Speedway, I had to get two sets of wheels and two sets of tires. I would have bought more, but I didn't have enough cash with me. :( Well next time more.

I primered a bunch of parts yesterday, I should have something painted today, if everything goes well.

An update. I painted the chassis and body with Maston red spray paint. They turned out Okay, there is need for polish and that kind of basic stuff, but I think it can be saved. The shade of that red is really good for my taste. Also I got the interior floor painted gloss white. Some engine work has been done too, carburetor installed and painted with thinned Humbroll's Clear Orange. Next coming some more detailing, stay tuned.

Did those Wheels come with the lug nuts already on them ? If not, what did you use to obtain the realistic looking lug nuts ? If you used hex beads what size of hex beads did you use ? Also what did you use to make the plug boots ? Thanks in advance for your answers to these questions. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the kind comments, Guys!

Those wheels are just like they came from the bag, only painted. That's why they're so nice and once painted they really look good.

Spark Plug Boots are actually molded in Valve Covers, I just painted them Semigloss black. Then I drilled holes to the center of those boots and that's how it looks. For the distributor, I drilled one hole which was big enough to fit all eight wires in, glued the wires there and that's it. Simple, but looks good enough, I think.

Hope this helps. :)

Gas Tank is painted, the base is Revell silver and then I painted those brackets with Revell's black. Also installed the fuel line from Carburetor to Fuel Pump. It's made from Detail Master's Braided Line.

Something has happened in the Chassis-area. I put the front suspension together and found no fit issues. Same thing with the rear suspension, everything fits very nicely together. Well I haven't still installed the rear shocks, and I'm planning to make two extra shocks, to make it more accurate. Only thing what needed a bit work was to install those Plastic Performance Products tires and wheels, but of course that's not a suprise, since they don't really belong to this kit. Only a little filing was needed to get them fit nicely. Also I added the brake lines, still need to connect them to the Brake Master Cylinder once I get that one installed.

Also started the interior work, installed the seat and seat belts. They are from the kit, mainly because I don't have red seat belt material. I'm trying to make them look a bit better once I get the roll cage installed (Tomorrow).

Thanks, Bruce. And yes, you're right. My skills are much better than they were like year ago. It's maybe because I've tried new technigues and new building materials. Also I have a Polishing set for paintjobs, so that makes bodies look much more shiny.

Interior stuff this time. First I installed the Fire Extinguisher and made brackets for it from metal wire. Nice little detail I think. Then I started fabricating longer seat belts so they could be mounted to roll cage. But there was no crossmember on correct height, so I had to add one. That's just because if I mounted the belts on the original crossmember (Too close to interior floor), it would not be safe for the driver. So new one is made from styrene tubing, painted gloss black and seat belts are Wrap Around-type. I had no problems when assembling the roll cage together.

As much as I respect and admire the Pettys it's nice to see some of the other early Nascar drivers get a little attention. Ray Nichols and Goldsmith were based in Griffith In., near my hometown. I actually met Paul twice. He was a nice, unassuming guy. People dont realize what he accomplished in his career. Anyway your off to a good start on a neat car, looking forward to seeing it completed !

Thanks Jon, and I agree with you. It's great to see different cars than always Petty cars (There's nothing wrong with them either). But after I get this one completed, I will start hacking with Petty '67 Torino Talladega. :D

I got started the BMF work with this one yesterday. I have still more work to do with that, but I'm trying to get it foiled today, stay tuned.

Thanks Cole.

My stupid computer has somekind of problem, when I tried to upload pics to PhotoBucket, it shut down and took 20 minutes to start up again. So don't shoot me if I have some problems with the pics.

Body is Foiled now, it turned out Okay, could be better but Now I have to live with it. Now I have to remove fingerprints of it and add decals and shoot a clearcoat. Hope these Pics show.

Thanks Rick, and yeah these were quite colorful and very nice cars Back In The Day. B)

I put the decals on, it was big job to do, but actually it looks like Stock Car once decaled. Those Racing Numbers and Plymouth Textes on the sides were bit difficult to get right, because they are installed over the chrome trim. Some more Micro Sol is still needed for the decals but here are some pics.
