SteveG Posted April 12, 2009 Share Posted April 12, 2009 .... built from a combination of Lindbergs first round test shot and prototype resin parts. I still have to add the spotlights and antennas. The spotlights are included, the antennas will be from scratch. I'll probably add a push bar mounted siren from my parts box. The kit also comes with push bar mounted lamps but I left them off this version. The decals are from my own stash, there are no plans for Lindberg to do a CHP version at this time but it's possible. The Vision bar is included with the kit along with seven others. I painted the lenses as they most likely will be molded clear. I modeled this it after a real CHP unit known as the "Ghost Charger" because of its all white paint scheme. It should be on display at the NNL East hopefully with some of the latest round of test shot parts. there are still a couple of revisions to be made but it's getting real close to being ready. I know everyone been asking what's taking so long but consider that they've added over 75 new parts to this version and that puts the current count at over 200 pieces. Glad it's coming! Looks like a fantastic update to an already excellent basic kit. Is everything in the plastic kit pretty much different than the diecast police car version? I have one of those, it's not bad, but it's not great. I'm thinking of combining those parts w/a Revell Uptown Magnum for a Magnum cruiser. I'm not too concerned if it ends up a curbside. I really hope they mold the taillights clear; I don't like the all-red ones since the real cars have clear backup lights, and if they're molded clear we can paint them much more convincingly. I don't suppose we'll see both the steel wheels and the 5 spoke hubcap version that so many agencies run? They use Magnum Wagons too. The folks around the airport,Detroit Metroplitan,are all worked up cause they say the cops are setting up speed traps to bust fast drivers.Soooo, what's wrong with slowin down? Any ways,your build looks good, but didja know they have blippin blue lights in the MIRRORS? Yeeesh, the look like a bad acid trip when they're all lit up! But then again, with no steel in the front end, you gotta put it somewhere. Prototype resin parts? is this something we should be looking for? 200 Parts? that is alot and I'm sure the price will Reflect that. $40? I'm planning on a GA state patrol Charger in blue/silver, SC state patrol in silver, and either Dekalb County GA Magnum in black/silver or Doraville PD Magnum K9 unit in all black (they still have a black Magnum R/T in service too). Recently saw a Dekalb County Charger (silver over black) had a custom painted maroon over black Charger (with obligatory bling rims) pulled over. But, we do have some super sneaky unmarked ones with the hubcaps and SXT badging!! No tint, no aerials!! Just the wigwags in the head and tails! The most messed up story I can remember is a Crown Vic passed me like I was standing still when I was on my back up here a few years ago, it had the cage in the back, the brush guard, and all the other amentities. So I left it alone. Them another car passed me then passed him. Then he pulled him over. Can you imagine that conversation? They were both probably doing 90 if not 100 in a 65mph Zone. CHP only bought a handful of Chargers for evaluation purposes. They don't like them because they don't have all the space of a Crown Vic, it has been the same problem with several cars CHP has evaluated. The CHP carries a lot of stuff compared to most police agencies so until someone starts making another full size sedan, or Ford drops the CV you won't see much variety in CHP markings. Around here, Our Allen Park Cops have Crown Vic's that are gloss black, with all the Police markings in a wierd reflective FLAT BLACK. So even though it LOOKS like an unmarked car, it isn't! There are also Impallas, Suburbans and Ford & Dodge pickups. They like to sneak up on them darn speeders... A couple of the small towns in San Antonio also have the marked Chargers like Leon Valley and Balcones Heights. Gone are the days we only had to fear the Crown Vics... Now, when the fuzzbuster starts beeping, everyone in the car plays "which one is the cop"... As for the kit... Seriously, how many light bars are in the kit??? How about some stealth markings? Last year they bought 88 of the '08 model, all plain Jane's in standard colors and full wheel covers for mostly undercover work and some training usage. They also added some slick top '09 Black and Whites to the fleet for standard patrol. I heard that there's 12 of them. I have photos of at least seven of them that I found doing my research. This biggest complaint I heard is the lack of trunk space. The way he was talking it sounded like it was a dozen or so cars, I had no idea they were looking at 100-ish cars. Of course with the CHP 100 cars is just a drop in the bucket. I want to do one of these in the National Park Service, white with green stripes. I haven't seen any yet but I'm sure its just a matter of time. Although I don't expect any significant changes on what I'm showing here, past experience tells me anything can and does happen. I really like the intimidating looks, it has "I gonna get ya" written all over it. First one I saw was an Oklahoma Highway Patrol cruiser, and it was almost scary to see it in the rear view mirror... like an angry animal or something.
