Porsche 914/6 GT '70 Le Mans 24 Hr - Finished

I've been really impressed by the way this build is coming along! I remember the 914's in the early '70's when I was in Junior High school, and I've always liked the looks of them.

I'd forgotten that Revell made a kit of this car, and I was fortunate that the other day on eBay, I snagged a near pristine kit of one (only the engine blocks were glued) for $50.00. B)

I'd certainly like to build this one sometime---------might open up the doors along with some other changes.

The ugly duckling of Porsche. Nice engine.

Yea a lot people consider the 914 as a Porsche stepchild. I guess it is but myself I really like the car's styling and with the bigger 6-cylinder engine the car was a great performer.

For me it's the sail panels behind the side windows that spoil the shape. Otherwise if you imagine a fastback roof, it would look pretty close to a flattened 911 (I only just realised that!). Somehow while I really don't like 914s I do really like the 914/6. This is a particularly good model, too.

Wheels look great! Are you going to add decals to the tires or leave em as blackwalls?

Thanks. The period photos I have found show no side wall marking so that's how I am modeling it.

I worked for Porsche/Audi as a service technician when I was in my late teens/early 20's and I remember working on those cars. We had only a few 6 cylinders ones that rarely came in, but the various 4 cylinder versions kept us busy. A good running 2.0 with the Weber carb up-grade, cam, and headers was a NICE ride….. :o

Beautiful build so far! Thanks for the great memories!
