1991 Ford F-350 4x4 WIP

Recommended Posts

Well finally got a start on my new Monogram F250 kit. I've did some cutting and gluing to go from a extended cab 2WD automatic, to a regular cab 4WD manual.

First thing I did was cut off the auto tranny and glue on the manual that I got from Casey.

I then shortened the cab. I don't have any filler yet, so the seam is still visible.

Next I shortened the frame, trying to keep the fuel tank intact. I also shifted the front crossmember to allow for the 4WD TTB system.

Finally I shortened the interior tub and cut out part of under the seat to allow it to sit over the modified chassis.

I think I'm going to like this build. I've never been a big fan of the Xtra-cab or Crew cab configuration, so this will be a welcome change.

You guys with these new releases are lucky. My two kits of this model are molded in metallic dark blue and charcoal gray. Gotta prime everything. :D

Yeah, spose I could've mentioned that in the first post!

TTB is indeed out of the AMT '81 Bronco. I noticed that it had an offset crossmember, since the the beam with the diff is longer than the non-diff beam, so that's why I offset the one on my kit.

While I'm here...

Some other plans for the kit are:

Fab custom brush guard with winch from CJ-7 kit.

Combine the roll bar from this kit and my F350 kit to make a double/double, also I'm going to extend the supports to mount on the wheel wells.

Snag the wheel flares from my Revell '81 Bronco and add some mudflaps.

Possibly fab a Lightning-style rear tube bumper.

Custom headers with side pipes from the Revell 70's Van.

Supercharger from '01 Lightning with custom CAI.

Add a few off-road goodies in the bed.

Was able to get the suspension and TTB figured out. I'll install the rear axle once I figure out the driveline angle.

Rear suspension with scratchbuilt shackles, still need to reinforce the front brackets.

Added spare leaf springs and built some shackles and TTB brackets.

Overall chassis thus far.

Just bought this kit today and will be watching the build up. I like the cab conversion and the 4WD set up as well.

I have some ideas of what I want to do with my kit and it is similar to this, although I think I will go with more of a stock tire/wheel setup.

Well it's been stalled for a while now. I decided that I want to make it a solid axle 350 instead, and use the TTB suspension for a 4x4 F-250 extended cab that I'm going to build to haul this truck. Of course, I'm waiting on the axle and leaf springs from Ma's Resin so I haven't gotten much further yet.

I guess I could post pics of where I'm at with the engine and my scratchbuilt front brushguard.

Oh man, forgot all about this! No I haven't finished it yet, it's sitting in my closet right now. Though since my last posts I decided that I'm making this a solid axle truck (since the real 350 came with a solid axle) and I swapped the front of the chassis with another F-250 frame. I might pull it back out this summer though to do some more work on it.

I'd just like to interject with a little thing I noticed in your build list: the flares from the Bronco won't work on the F-350. The wheel wells from 80-86 were flat on the top and have an indent while the wheel wells from 87-96 are fully rounded and stick out. :)

Yeah I know about the differences, though I mocked them up and they would work. However, I think I'm going to scratchbuild some larger flares instead.

Chris: Actually the TTB is from the AMT Ford Bronco. I like it better because the arms are separate pieces, which means they can be positioned any way you want as well as the ability to add leaf springs like I did.
