Monty
I had this kit as a kid & loved it, but I've never seen another one since with the exception of the occasional ebay listing. AMT included a real grille, front and rear bumpers and tail lights. This has been my Holy Grail kit for decades. AMT also issued this kit, which I've never seen apart from ebay listings. IIRC, AMT issued these kits the same basic P/N but one has a 3 or 4 character extension. The box art indicates that this one may not have the front bumper or grille, among other things (decals?) Anyone know anything about these kits?
Art Anderson
Could it be that the kit had optional noses in it? Either that, or AMT tooled up the smoother nose as an insert into the tooling for that second release. Art
The Creative Explorer
With a tiny bit googleing; It seems you would be good to go with this kit. Edited October 10, 2013 by The Creative Explorer
JS23U
Are you sure that the box and the contents belong together? The box shows a 1970 car, the model is a (long nose) 69 car. I'd say the model is from a different kit. As I heard it both versions of the "Mach Won" were identical except for boxes. Maybe some small differences but nothing big. Also, the body of the Mach Won was more or less stock. Edit: At least one ot the Mach Wons was molded in yellow. ss2000
there's 1 of the red car on box on eBay now. Pic of side of box says multiple front end options. Also looks like a stock body.
Luc Janssens
can't answer, but just love the art of the top box.
Monty
can't answer, but just love the art of the top box. Me too! That may be my all-time favorite AMT box art. If the store would've had more than one of those kits, I would've found a way to get them all.
Mark
They're the same kit. The blanked-out grille piece was also in the '70 annual kit, which is where the body came from.
