mnwildpunk
I've been researching 1971 plymouth dusters for a future AMT build and I now have more questions then answers. I've seen the 340 painted both blue and orange. I'm assuming blue is the correct color? What is a testor or tamiya color that is close to the blue or orange? Next I can't seem to find the correct answer for which 340 engine option package would use the dual scoop hood or just a flat hood. Then there seems to be yet a third style of hood that had a centered dual snorkel scoop. Can someone give me some answers please? Thanks
disabled modeler
Dave....You can google the real thing and see them and what colors/options they had... I'm not real sure myself on those. Year ago a friend of mine owned a Black one with a White stripe 340-4speed and a flat hood.

1972coronet
All 1970-1971 340 engines were Chrysler Engine Orange , period . Here's a link to the definitive Chrysler information : http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/library.shtml Edited October 30, 2012 by 1972coronet
Art Anderson
In that era, Chrysler painted their basic engines Chrysler Equipment Blue, while high performance engines were painted Chrysler Engine Orange. Art

mnwildpunk
thanks 72 coronet that answered all my questions except the hood issue. From that it seems like everything except the flat hood was dealer or aftermarket and has no reason to it?
ChrisPflug
Flat hood from the factory on '71 340 cars, black paint treatment covering the fender and door tops and rear window sill was optional and included the big "340 Wedge" hood decal The twin scoops and narrower blackout treatment with the "strobe" down the center was available with the lower performance cars with the "Twister" package. The blackout/strobe treatment was available without the scoops on Twisters as well

I wasn't aware that only the Twister package that came with the hood scoops ; I'd long believed that the '70-'72 Duster 340 had them as an option . It appears that only the '70 Swinger 340 and the 1971 Demon 340 (i.e. , only the Dodge models) had the scoops !
mnwildpunk
Well thank you for taking care of that headache. You guys. I learned a lot mostly that there are a lot of cars that have been reworked out there now a days
ChrisPflug
Kind of ironic that you could get factory hood scoops on a slant 6 or 318 Duster but not a 340 car
1972coronet
Kind of ironic that you could get factory hood scoops on a slant 6 or 318 Duster but not a 340 car "The Age of Jive" ; the dawning of the "Sticker Racers" (albeit , factory-produced versus aftermarket decals). It's alleged that a 340-powered '71 Twister was built ! Ha ha ha !

1972coronet
mod tops were never avail on any year duster There's allegedly a couple of 1970 Dusters around with the "V1M" Mod Top option ; and just like the two 1970 Barracudas with the Mod Top (and Mod Interior on the FY1 Barracuda ) , the option was cancelled within weeks of the start of 1970 M.Y. production . Besides , who'd have stopped the purchaser of a new Duster , Belvedere , R.R. , etc. , etc. , from having a Mod Top added post-facto ?
