English Jules
I want to get a couple of the recent Revel 2 in 1 mid 80s Mustang, Revell are easy to get here, its just AMT etc
2000-cvpi
If they were starting from scratch why not go with the newer body style ? They can use the most of the CAD to make a Mercury of the same years with most of the engineering already done. This must be for the make and take for the kids. I know that the newer body style would have been much easier to make multiple additional kits from. The Mercury Marauder version would sell well, at least to the Marauder owners. Like the Hudson's have. I am a typical Marauder owner that has to have multiples of anything Marauder related. I would buy 15 to 20 Marauder kits of they made them. I get the possible rational for making this kit, Revell must have had most of the work done before the Lindberg kit came out. There is no other reason why they would kit such a bland car that is already made by another company. av405
The Lindberg CV kit first came out sometime around 1998. No way Revell had "most of the work done" back then.

Tim The picture is my DTR, I've had it for about six months. I love the car, it's almost everything I could ask for in a car. Why did you have one for only a week? blubaja
The Lindberg CV kit first came out sometime around 1998. No way Revell had "most of the work done" back then. Why not? Yes! The last gen bodied Crown Vics would be so much more desirable! But again, these are toys aimed at kids. Revell didn't have the model builder community in mind with it. If there is anything at all worthy in the kit, I'll get one. But it is entirely unlikely.
English Jules
Never heard of the Marauder. All new to me. I guess it would be too expensive to have the CV done in resin etc
av405
First and foremost, I want to say that my statement was an educated guess and not an absolute. But if by that point they had already spent all of the time and money to get "most of the work done," don't you think they would have released it despite Lindberg's own offering? Just like Revell, AMT, and Lindberg did when they all released versions of the then-new F-150 in the late 90's?

But it's Revell. Who knows wtf the deal is.
SSNJim
The most recent issue of the diecast Testors 2007 CV police car kit had a front bumper with fog lights, and an upscale interior. If you came up with a Mercury grille, wheels and some way to put the "Marauder" on the rear bumper, it would make a pretty convincing Marauder. Here's a review of the kit; notice the common Marauder theme in it: http://crownvicsetc.blogspot.com/p/review-of-testors-2007-crown-vic-police.html

oldnslow
Just checked Revell ,looks like the CV on the Revell site is just a reissue of the old Lindberg kit. Am I wrong? Should have read the whole thread before commenting, new tool same car. Edited February 17, 2015 by oldnslow

The interior isn't close enough to the Marauder interior to work for me. I've been considering having some of the Marauder specific parts 3d printed for the 1/18 scale Vic's. It's my own version of a kit that I'll always want but will never be kitted by a manufacturer. I can dream though.
2000-cvpi
Never heard of the Marauder. All new to me. I guess it would be too expensive to have the CV done in resin etc The Marauder was made by Mercury from 2003 to 2004, they made at total of 11,052 over that time. They came in 4 colors, silver, red, blue, and black. The main differences from a Crown Victoria are the 302 horsepower 4.6 dual overhead cam engine from the Mach 1 Mustang, front and rear bumpers, interior pieces, and the rims. I've owned two now, a silver 2003 and my current dark toreador red 2004.
oldnslow
While the Marauder is nice, the Crown Vic LX Sport is too. We have a black '04 with the single cam 4.6. Had it since '06, great car to travel in and with the dark windows, nobody likes to pass.
blubaja
Checked it out today. Definitely NOT the same tooling as the Lindberg. Its very close, (maybe the body was derived from reverse engineering the Lindberg, close)but not enough to be the same. The chassis ins entirely different. The window trims are softer molded than the Lindberg, so it would be harder to mask for a decent replica. The tires seem HUGE.

Tulie
Who's doing market research to Revell?,Crown Victoria....really?there is no kit of the new Z/28 or new Stingray and they wasted money on an entirely new mold for that BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.....I like there quality of kits but I hope they don't sell a single one of this one. Not that I was particularly insightful, but that the whole notion Revell would release a Lindberg kit was pretty stupid. Then again, any stupider than ground-up new tooling for something Lindberg did more comprehensively in the first place? Now there's a good question. Yes, especially considering Round 2 owns Lindberg..it was nothing more than typical message forum crackpot ramblings...

The real question is, why didn't they do a new mold for the last-gen Crown Victoria? A question which will probably not be answered.
