My 1:1 67 Chevelle Hot Rod Build

The whole reason for the original Chevelle model build was to use it as a design tool for the 1:1 so now if you dont mind I'd like to introduce you to "FaultLine" The Big Brother of Aftashox......

I brought him home from the body shop and got busy putting him together heres the start of the rollcage installation, First sections of the floor had to be cut away to allow access to the frame. A true rollcage should be welded to the frame and not the body as most do. Im a true HotRodder so it has to be right.

I start by cutting 7'inch square patch from behind where the seats will be...

now I have access to the frame where the main hoop will be welded

heres the main hoop , its about 5 1/2 inches too tall so i'll cut that off....

Wala main hoop in place and ready for welding lots more ahead stay tuned...

Hey i went out and cut the hole in the trunk for the fuel cell here are some progress pics...

Here you can see how the cell just sits on the floor of the trunk....

heres some more work done and some of the parts just waiting thier turn to be installed..

here the frame has been accessed through the trunk for the rear part of the roll cage.

Well its been a minute since i updated ya on this but heres the goodies my friend Ed and I welded in teh rollcage and I got my Wilwood brake system via UPS so heres a few pics of the work and brakes I hope you enjoy.

heres ed doing the spot welding while I get ready to take over....(really I was just eating a bag of chip so he decieded to get the spot welds done).....

heres some of the goodies that came in two Wilwood boxes....Gotta get the best brakes cause as I always say " I build my engine wrong and it wont go....But if I build my brakes wrong it wont stop!".....

God bless you, you sure have a big project in front of you!!! I hope your bank account survives this build. Speaking from experience, I can tell you the costs just keep going up. I had a budget and within weeks I blew it pieces. In the end, it always get done, over cost or not. If it looks half as good as the model, it will be a winner for sure. Have fun with it! :D

Like they say if you want to go fast it's not cubic inch it's cubic dollar. :D That is going to be a Killer car when it gets done. The body work alone looks like it will be a big job, then adding the roll-cage and all the rest. This is the stuff that hardly anybody see's. You get to see what is possible, see past the pile of sheet metal,rust and parts that will make a great car someday. I like to see the progress from an old Chevy to a smoking Chevelle. In a way these "old" cars kind of deserve this kind of treatment. Even if it's a stock restore or a highly modified hot rod. It's all good in the end.

Hey Romell... just curious, but what do you do for a living? You're such a talented guy, both in scale and in 1:1, so I'm wondering what you do to bring in the bucks, and if it's car-related or not.

Hey harry I own my own business and I have been into working on and building cars for as long as I can remember (since 12) my business is not car related but it does afford me the time and money I need to support my projects. Ive been a HotRodder all my life in my 20's I used to drive (and crash)a 200mph top fuel rail that my uncle owned.

Hey Peter thx for the well wishes. All my big ticket items are out of the way, I have a garage full of parts just waiting to be bolted on and I'll be doing all the work from here on out ie. painting, fabricating, wrenching, welding , pizza eating and soda drinking LOL! I only have a couple items left that will cost me a pretty penny but thats under control. have a great day my friend.

something tells me that you will have some super detail in this 1:1 like you do in your models!

Looks like you are taking the time to do it right and while I am sure you are anxious to get it done so you can cruise in it,putting quality parts and thought into it is important.

Can't wait to see it done!

Hey fellas first let me apologize for the slightly blurry photos but it was dark and the cam was struggling for light. But anyway I pulled the motor out so I can build my suspension and break system and this will also allow me to smooth out the firewall before painting. Enjjoy!

Thats funny Mark because that's exactly what i was thinking well I'll have what really counts ...the body. Thats how i do my models too, I'll get a kit just for the body and improve from there. This is the new and improved kit bashed Chevelle. ;) LOL! B)

Romell, the headers look nice but the tubes look small? what size are the primaries and collectors?

These are the new FlowTech headers, the primaries are 1 7/8ths and the collectors are 3 inch there not small at all. In fact this set of headers is designed to give you 10% more horsepower than the average headers. because the pipes are lenth tuned which means you dont have to have a 2 inch primary for power gain.
