2085 VETTE JET!

The Vette Jet will be a Futuristic Flying Car with Tandem Seating. I started Vette Jet a while ago. I have been working on it between other builds, until now. Now, I am going to try to finish the Vette Jet in time for NNL WEST on February 1, 2014.
I will be using parts from 2 Monogram 8th scale 1985 Corvette Kits and a 12' long MPC X-Wing Fighter.

I bought one of the Vettes on Ebay for about $20 and then I received a second Corvette body in a trade. Both Vette bodies were warped and the tops were also broken. This should be Fun, lets get started!

CUTTING IT UP!

I started by cutting off the front chassis section of Both Bodies with a Cut-Off Wheel.

Then I cut the bottom halves off Both Bodies. I used the Side Trim as a guide for cutting.

When I cut the Bottom Backs off the Bodies, I left the License Plate Area in one Body and cut it out on the other Body.

Then I cut the bottom halves from both Hoods and glued them together with Zap-A-Gap.

GLUEING IT BACK!

I cut the top off the worst Body Half and marked it as the Bottom Body.

OFF WITH THE TOPS!

I decided to cut off the second top too. It was also warped. I always liked convertibles...

I decided to shorten the Vette a little, so I cut out a couple of inches.

Here it is glued back together.

Here is a mock-up. Up to this point I planned to make the Vette Jet something like this, but I changed my mind. Stay Tuned for some BiG Changes!

Hi, Ira. I've been following your builds and I'm quite interested in your creative process. How do you go about coming up with these builds? Do you have a general concept before you go looking for a kit to fit it or do you look at a kit, like this Corvette, and just let the creative ideas go to work?

What makes the creative mind of Ira tick? It runs like a fine Swiss watch.

Inquiring minds want to know...

TOO WIDE!

Vette Jet looks pretty Wide to me. I think I'll cut a few inches from the middle...

DSCN7720C_zpsecedb655.jpg

I cut the body down the middle with a Cut-Off Wheel in Dremel Tool and removed a 3 inch strip. Vette is only taped on the Center Line.

Funny now it looks a little too long again...

FIXING SOME HOLES!

I traced the shapes of the wheel openings on to sheet plastic. Then I cut them out with Kyosho Lexan Scissors for Radio Control Cars.

I glued them in place with Zap-A-Gap, Green Label Glue.
