Diesel Gypsy Posted February 27, 2007 Share Posted February 27, 2007 Hi Guys, I have seen some fantastic models posted here & quite frankly am in awe of the quality of craftmanship. My Wife has persuaded me to post a few of my "work in progress" shots of the K-wopper I'm building. I started the build late last year, did some painting & weathering over the Christmas holidays, will do a bit more soon I hope. I would like to hear any comments, good & bad, I can learn from both. The frame with most of the weathering done A little more weathering required on the pipe work I think Cab is taped togeather & resting on the frame Main cab parts painted, an old rad grill taped in to give some rigidity. I'l have to wait and see what it looks like when finished. Might change the look of the paint when everything else is on the truck. Great job so far and keep us updated!!! For me, the thing that seems to sideline me the most is what I want it to be when I'm done. I have bounced between if I want it to be a "BJ and the Bear" tractor or possibly a "bed-bugger" rig. Diesel Gypsy Posted February 28, 2007 Author Share Posted February 28, 2007 Thanks Guys, I mixed rust coloured paint & talc powder to paint the turbo's, when dry this gave the texture I wanted. I then used dark & rust coloured washes & a light coloured dry brushing to bring out the high lights & to give that pale, hot look. I kept the "hot look" away from the air (cool) side of the turbo for a more defined look. The wheels are resin spiders from K.F.S with super singles on the front. Stacks are K.F.S ally mufflers & etch nickle shields. Shields are tricky to roll but well worth the effort. Scratch built snow chains & tank hangers. My idea is to build a trans mountain tractor equiped to cope with the rough mountain roads of the Northern States in the 70s. I hope I'm succeding. Many thanks for your kind words. Aaron, The tyre chains are scratch built from chain available from KFS, but I guess any scale chain will do. I could write a short "how I built" piece if you like. I use it alot for both painting & building, it allows me to turn the model without touching it. The turntable I have is about 6 inches tall, when on the bench (which is taller than the average table) I find this to be at a good working hight. I paid more attention to the model when I did enlarge, than the base. I might try that one for my home workbench. Then again, it would work well in the truck too. Everythings fine now, thanks Tim, Ive had a real bad bout of Crohns Disease, but I'm sorted now thanks to the Dr's & nurses, incredible people, I cant thank them enough. Ray, Welcome back. I'm glad to hear you can go back to what you enjoy, not just modeling, but living. Thanks Ray. Hows things in the big wide world of truckin. I hope you've been able to fix that Cummins & get back onto the black-top. We last spoke in the spring when you were sittin in a motel room building a Autocar, waiting for the motor to be rebuilt on you truck. Really hope things are going better for you now. The lead trailer needs a tarp, and I still have to do the rear trailer and dolly to complete the Michigan Train. I am in the middle of moving to Missouri, with my grilfriend, so that will be set aside for now. I've been working off and on with other projects. Mainly my White Freightliner drom tractor, and some others I've been tinkering with. Anyway, that's it. Glad to see your back.
