mysterj1
Scott....thank you for the kind words. It means a lot from you. LOL the blower was smooth smooth as a baby's bottom.... I will have to post a pic of then mooneyham blower next to this. You are right about the time it's going to take to model, have printed and prep. That's my biggest thing right now. Althought I know I am trying to make this as accurate as possible is the resin driving me to have it 3D printed as well.i would hate to lose all of this hard work I have put into this one. I am guess you are impressed with it so far?? ... Hehe Chris, would creating a Mooneyham decal do the trick? I understand it's not 3d but would certainly be doable. Probably easier to pull off than casting or photo-etching, too.
DynoMight
Chris, would creating a Mooneyham decal do the trick? I understand it's not 3d but would certainly be doable. Probably easier to pull off than casting or photo-etching, too. I was just about to say this. A decal would be way easier than PE or 3d printing. Not as realistic, but it'll work. Besides, when this is done, everyone's eyes will fall out from the pure awesomeness this model is! They won't be able to notice the Mooneyham logo is a decal and not PE! Mooneyzs
Bob... Thank you so much for the kind words. The blower isn't 100% to my satisfaction yet but Its getting there. I am happy with how its turning out so far. Joe... Thank you. You know I never thought about doing a decal for that. That may just be the trick to go with. I will have to see if one of my buddies could possibly draw it up for me. You are right that it would be much easier to pull off for sure....lol Glenn... Thank you. you are right that a decal would be much easier than the photo-etch or 3D print. You are right that you may not be able to tell it is a decal. Danno... Thank you Buddy! Mooneyzs
Little more work on the blower... well not much but I was able to get some more bondo on the blower and started sanding the rear plate. Going to finish it up this morning and hopefully I can have the blower checked off the to do list: Added bondo on the blower and it is now ready for some sanding: Started sanding the rear plate and I will have to add some bondo in a few spots still:
Codi
Hi Chris, when I saw your original bondo'd supercharger, I thought "uh-oh"....but man did you save that one. I think you did an awesome job on it. Regarding the whole PE v. decal logo for the blower, I think you're more than "safe" going with a decal. Even Michaelangelo had flaws in the statue of David but he wasn't telling anyone. Looking forward to your next post. Cheers, Tim
hansb57
Joe... Thank you. You know I never thought about doing a decal for that. That may just be the trick to go with. I will have to see if one of my buddies could possibly draw it up for me. You are right that it would be much easier to pull off for sure....lol Oh no!!!! You're going for "Easier" ??? I've been following this build for 2 years now and you have NEVER gone for easier. If there is a vote on decal or PE, I'll vote PE. Why?? because the build is worth it and you will be doing something new again. Thanks for sharing your skills with us!!
Mooneyzs
Tim... thank you for. The kind words. I will be honest I wasn't sure how well the blower would turn out redoing the ribs but I am glad I did them now. You are right as builder we know every litte flaw we have in our builds. I know some of mine no one will ever see but I know they are there. Hans... thank you for the kind words and for following along on this build for as long as you have. I know my progress has been slow and I need to pick it up because I really want to finish it this year. I have to agree that I think the Photo-etch would be the better way to go because I think it would look much better and more realistic. I just need to find someone that can do a one off piece for me. I have one lead that I need to contact. But i need to draw up the design first.
Mooneyzs
So after sanding the blower the past few nights little here little there. It was time to add another couple coats of primer tonight. Progress is being made but I need to sand it down again and add another coat of primer. There are still some areas I need to address on the back plate along with the front plate. I need to rescribe the panel lines as I noticed I filled them up with a little primer. I am becoming a little happier with the blower now although it still needs a little more work in my option before it is ready for some black base for Alclad. Here are a couple shots for you: Here is a shot of the Right size. Looks ok but I can see a few spots that need to be addressed:\ Here is the left side:
bobthehobbyguy
Nice job. Would you post before and after for comparison?
gasser59
Chris - you have to put the Mooneyham logo on the front blower plate. I suggest a photoetch 'M' and a decal of the curved letters as we spoke of earlier. Here's what I'm referring to.
Mooneyzs
Bob... I will get a before and after pic posted when I get home of the differences as it stands now. Brad... I have to agree that you are right that the "M" and is needed on there. You do some outstanding work. Thank you for your help. I am having another thought I need to talk to tou about...lol
ClayK
Too bad you aren't doing a newer car Chris. You could just wrap a big ol blower bag around it!! Done!! Looking fantastic. I love watching how precise you work. Clay
bobthehobbyguy
A crazy thought just came across my mind. For some of his big scale models Randy Derr has had laser etching done for his tire tread. I wonder if the blower could have the logo laser etched. Not sure if it would work on resin. Just a thought. Mooneyzs
Clay... I would love to a new style car. Too bad no one makes bodies in 1/16th scale for them....lol. that would be an easy solution to wrap a blower bag around it. But knowing me I would still want it correct before putting the blower bag around it... It's ok you can say it... I am nuts... Bob.... Hmm I have never thought about laser etching. That is a possibility. I have no clue if it would work on resin. Here are a few shots of the blower...before and at its current state....I tried to get similar angles so you can compare Right Side (top before......Bottom Current): Left side (Top Before..... Bottom Current): Rear Panel (Top Before.... Bottom Current):

Mooneyzs
Brad... thanks man. I know I can admit it and I am ok being called nuts. I know I am trying to achieve some things in this build that I have never dine before and I wasn't sure I could do.
bobthehobbyguy
Nice job on matching the blower. Its getting there a piece at a time.
Magic Photos
Chris the back plate looks thicker on the 1:1 car? But it does look great.
Mooneyzs
Bob.... thank you. Little by little I am making progress. Mike... you waited to tell me that now?? haha ... guess its time to throw this one out and draw up a whole new blower so the back plate matches now.
