delong212
Hey everyone i had a question about my set up for painting. Mainly my question is when i sand my parts or body for mold lines, do i stop there or do i sand the entire body? What am i looking for as a finished product before priming for paint? I know its kind of a newb style question but I have this really nice 56 Ford Pickup and i want to make sure i do it justice. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jason
Ace-Garageguy
Opinions abound on this subject, but my personal recommendation is to scrub the entire body with an old toothbrush and an abrasive cleanser like Comet or BonAmi, with plenty of hot water, before you sand the mold parting-lines off. Cleaning this way will remove any mold lubricant that could contaminate the surface and cause fisheyes later on. Scrubbing BEFORE you sand the mold lines off prevents you from getting any contamination forced into the sanded areas. It also scuffs the surface nicely for primer adhesion, and the bristles and abrasive cleanser will get into fine details and crevices without damage. Sandpaper will ride over raised details, can damage them, and won't get into the nooks and low spots adjacent to them.
