  1. Some food for thought; Years ago I was looking at buying a 65 Chevy 2wd pickup as a project and did a good bit of research on updating the front suspension. I found out that the whole front suspension from a 73-87 2wd was practically a drop in upgrade. Just a few extra bolt holes had to be drilled. The big advantage was going to 5 lug wheels and disc brakes, power steering etc. With that in mind, the modern Revell 64/65 chevy pickup kits originally released back in the 90s should work very well to provide 2wd suspension parts for the 73-87 MPC trucks.
  2. This is great news! I have been thinking it would be cool to build a modern version using a Lonestar cab. I have seen a few photos here and there of a Peterbuilt version that I believe is owned by the same guy who owns the Boss now. Does anyone know of a website that would have more photos and info? I think he goes by Stagecoach motorsports but I can't find a website. Can't think of the name of the Peterbuilt right now. I can think of several projects I can use parts for. I never finished my Boss as a kid and I not even sure where it got to. I had a bunch of problems with it for some reason. I still come across some small parts in my parts boxes occasionally. I do still have the Bandit and it is relatively complete. I planned to rebuild it at some point but I'm missing both headlights. For some reason the Bandit went toghether much easier. Maybe I learned how to overcome the pitfalls on the Boss. I did make the mistake of painting it dark blue based on the way the real one looked on the box. From the photos I see of it now, apparently it is/was painted black. BTW the Bandit headlights are from a 77 Buick Regal. We owned a brand new 77 Regal when this kit came out. 77 Olds Cutlass lights were similar but just slightly different.

  4. There are several types and classes of pulling trucks. There are 4wd trucks 2wd trucks and semis. The semis look pretty much like a street version and even run street tires. They are usually short wheelbase and have special hitches that go on the 5th wheel. Some run multiple turbos with the exhaust up through the hood.
  5. I didn't know plastruct made elbows. I'll have to check them out.
  6. What do you guys use to replicate the intake and exhaust piping for engine swaps and other custom applications? Evergreen doesn't make solid rod that big and plastic or aluminum tubing is difficult or impossible to bend. Plastruct makes acrylic rod but I have never worked with it. 3/16 would be roughly equal to 4" in scale. I'm thinking maybe 6 gauge aluminium wire which is .162". I could use sprue but its inconsistent and not always round.
  7. I like the old Ertl instructions that tell you how to make one a truck bed and the second one towed on a dolly. That would be cool to do.
  8. Probably because diesels are cool! To be different and also to show that you can get a lot of performance from a diesel. Most people only think of diesels for slow lugging power but there are a lot of drag racing diesels in everything from pickups to dragsters and funny cars that are changing peoples thinking.
  9. I got a couple decent deals on ebay which is unusal. I got a decently built Paystar 5000 logger for $25 and was only missing a couple pieces. I also got a IH F-4270 built that came with a factory sealed 4300 reissue and two Transtar sales brochures for $38 which is about what the 4300 goes for by itself. The built is missing the stacks, one front outer wheel and a few minor things. I'm having some fun fixing junkers.
  10. I like the Reo spoke wheels. I have several of the reisue AMT truck kits with the 10 hole wheels I'd trade. I have the Pete cabover, the Kenworth K123, the Cali Hauler, The IH transtar 4300. I don't have any newer style wide fronts though.
  11. The IH 4300 looks like it can be from 79-83. The 78s had round headlight bezels and the 84s had rectangular headlights. The kit has square bezels and round bulbs so it falls in between the changes.
  12. With the upcoming reissue of the Mack DM600 I was wondering if it would be fairly easy to convert one to a centered cab like an R model. Or are there other major differences besides the offset of the cab?
  13. What would be the correct trans? I spent some time searching the web and I can't find any photos or anything in the engine. I found a few old threads where that had been photos but are now gone from their hosting site.
