Gregg Posted November 28, 2006 Share Posted November 28, 2006 Guys, I am doing the Up Close feature on the Dodge Magnum SRT8, yes, I have one from Revell, one of my "fringe benefits." I need to see if anyone knows what the smaller black box, attached to the air intake, is on the 6.1-liter Hemi. The photos I have of a real Hemi SFT8 don't have it, but one of another 6.1 has it. I think the one with it is a SRT8 300C It's not the air cleaner, I know that. That goes off to the left, or driver's side. This small box sits to the right, passenger side. Thanks in advance. paulcolt Posted November 28, 2006 Share Posted November 28, 2006 With that bar code on it it seems to be a computer box of some sort.The red cap also leads me to believe it is a positive terminal on the electrical system like in the pontiac aztek. Its a contraption auto-makers have been using for years to quiet the sound of the air rushing into the engine. Its just an air plenum box and would be removed by someone serious about performance. 62rebel Posted November 28, 2006 Share Posted November 28, 2006 i agree with dave; our VW's use "dampers" to cut down the drone of intake air and provide a "buffer" effect. it's just an air chamber, and removing it gets that "moan" noise some are looking for. It's not a plenum box.....there would be a hose coming from tha radiator support or fender well and another hose to tha throttle body. Tha RED cover is where tha 12 V from tha battery comes in, tha snaky-looking plastic loop behind thet box is all tha wires coming from tha relays. But two questions....."This Box" seems to 'T' into another pipe coming in from tha Right, is this engine Turbo-charged? I see what yu mean, sorta, but I always thought that a plenum was a device with which to increase the air pressure inside tha box to a value that is greater than that outside the enclosure. It might be a pulse damper to eliminate or progressively diminish tha oscillations in tha intake air supply. I think Smokey called it Fluid Dynamics.
