RatRod
Here's my second build in over 14 months, started this a couple years ago, lost interest, let it collect dust bunnies for quite awhile, then pulled it out and finished it. The Tom Daniel Roarin' Rail snap kit with several scratch built goodies (in cartoon fashion ) I gotta tell ya, this was a blast to do!!! Harry P.
So how do those front wheels work? Are the "spokes" a clear plastic disc?
iBorg
This is one kit that I can't understand why it hasn't been re-issued. If building something like this doesn't make you smile, you're a grouch! Mike
RatRod
So how do those front wheels work? Are the "spokes" a clear plastic disc? Yep Harry, I scratch built the front wheels from sheet plastic, then used clear sheet for the centers, and thin O-Rings for the tires. W-409
AMAZING job with this one! This is pretty radical, but that doesn't matter, it's very clean build without any mistakes. Like it, those front wheels are amazing, and rear tires look very good too.
Bernard Kron
OK, first off, very, very kool. I'd love to know more about the mods you make to achieve the surreal look you attained, Harry's question reveals you changed the front wheels, certainly a key aspect of the effect you've achieved. But what about the photography? Did you process the pictures or did you use paint effects when building the model? I'm referring to things like the air scoop and the tires. They don't look "real". They look like drawings! I love the result. It's brilliant. How'd you do it????

krazyglu
Now this is quite interesting and not by any means what I was expecting. It really does look like a painting...I think you achieved the cartoon look pretty well perfect. This would look so cool on display......Awesome job! RatRod
WOW!!! Thanks a bunch guys, I was hesitant to post this one because of the cartoonish fashion, but glad I did.... The rest of the scratch built goodies include the fuel pump, adding thin sheet strips to make a finned timing cover, the two pot fuel injectors, the scoop, throttle linkage, and brake handle. I added the oversized fuel line, and small plug wires to keep the toon theme. There's no chrome parts in these kits, so everything is paint. Testors metalizers, a little Alclad, and lacquers. Once you start adding detail to this thing, it's hard to stop, because there's so much more you can do!!! As far as my pics go, I just use white diaper flannel as a background, along with three 100 watt Reveal bulbs in shades. I do edit my photos in Adobe photoshop, mainly cropping, brightness, and such. I guess I have figured how to set this camera up to shoot small stuff, 'cause I can't get a good pic of a person.... Bernard Kron
It's the Photoshop processing that makes the photos look a bit like drawings. You've pushed the contrast and brightness, and perhaps manipulated the highlights and shadows a bit. Purists might object, but there's nothing "pure" about either Tom Daniel's original concept or your superb elaboration of it. The processing is perfect for this build and, as I said before, I love the result. BTW, all those scratch built goodies are not only beatifully excecuted, but they definitely are a key factor in taking this model to it's very special level. Thanx for sharing!
