These were taken somewhere is the 1976-79 timeframe, so please excuse the picture quality. I have most of the kits/supplies I need to scratchbuild/kitbash the car. I want to build it (and the Semi he drove.....that is in the CBP thread) and present it to him for his upcoming birthday. whale392 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Share Posted March 24, 2011 Thanks Chris.......the car is a 150" Chassis Research bar car built by Loghhe Stamping in 1964 and lengthened in 1965. It ran for a while in BB/R class with a blown Big Block Olds under the 'Glass Chariot' name (supposedly, the car was originally built as a fuel car for Dick Lahaie in 1964, but Dick has looked at the car and says it isn't his. Loghhe confirmed the car as one of his by the change in tube diameter forward of the firewall, but can't provide any real info on who it went to after his stretch job. Anyway, my dad ran the car in the mid 70s through the middle 80s at a lot of Michigan tracks with the 426 Hemi (in multiple types of induction through the years) and later a 440+6 engine. I grew up with this car firmly implanted in my psychie as I was at the track every weekend with dad and this car. The body is a narrowed fiberglass '27 T Roadster Pick-up body that was popular in the late 60s-early 70s, the paint is Medium Flake Mica Blue with lettering in White One-Shot. Headers were B-body Mopar units flipped with the 45* turndowns welded to turn the gases out away from the car. I have the 'Hippie Hemi' rail that will provide some of the tubing, the Tony Nancy 22JR kit for the Chassis Research rollbar pattern and the basic body, and the wheels/tires from the Hippie Hemi as well as widened Cragars for the rears. The fuel tank is a Pony Keg and I have one in scale. Hemi will come from a Revell 1967 GTX kit with a kitbashed tunnel-ram intake (unless I go with the later Hilborn Mechanical Fuel Injection unit he ran towards the end of the Hemis time in the rails). Fingernail Polish that I got at 'Hot Topic' is an almost dead match for the paint on the car. Most of the parts are here, I just have to find the time among all the other builds to get it done. One thing though, the Nancy kit doesn't have the Chassis Research rollcage(Chassis Research was Scotty Fenn's company, I'm assuming the Logghes did the extension? The pic looks like a Logghe chassis with the Fenn cage.). You should be able to modify the Nancy T body to suit your purposes though. The Double Dragster kit has that cage configuration I believe. I'm partial to injectors but the scratched tunnel ram/carb set up would definitely be more unique. Again, great project, post progress pics! I actually have a similar story although my dad didn't drive but he was part of the pit crew of a top alcohol dragster team from when I was 7 months old til I was about 13 and that's where my love of dragracing came from. I want to build that dragster in 1/16th scale. When I get home I will have to post a pic to show you, its the only one I have at the moment of it. whale392 Posted March 25, 2011 Author Share Posted March 25, 2011 Jack, thanks for correcting me on the bar origins (I had both kits in front of me and mistook the DD kit for the 22JR kit). I am still working on collecting parts, so the build won't be started right away. I have about 15 pics of the car I need to go through as well (all of them are in as bad a shape or worse than the ones I posted) to determine just what all I will need for the build. Believe it or not, we don't have or know a lot of the cars history before coming to dads possession. After owning it since 1975, dads memories of the car are also a little hazy! Chris, That looks like an early RED, 225"? I like it, and think a reasonably close build could be made starting with the Garlits Swamp Rat 1R kit. I think I have been to all of the drag strips in Cali from the Mid '70's to late 80's when my dad was on the team. Few of them no longer exists which stinks.
