I build mainly 1/25 cars from the 50s-70s, but also some military every once in awhile. Sometimes, 1/35 is the only place to find an automotive subject! (I'm a proud UW grad who moved to Texas just to get all that cold out of my system). Hope you enjoy the board. Post some of your work up when you get a chance. I lived off campus out past the Ford dealership, so I had to drive in every morning. The snow was so bad one day I had to bribe the garbage man to tow my car onto Grand Ave so I could get to class. I'd never had to scrape the insides of my car windows before I lived there, nor had it occurred to me that I'd ever have to have tire chains on for about half a year. OTOH, it's an amazing place in the summer. Generally 85* and virtually no humidity. If you didn't check out Vedauoo while you were there, you missed out! I will never forget I woke up on the 4th of July and there was 1/2" of snow on the mall between sorority and fraternity row! Don't know how many kegs we took up to Vedauwoo. Also great were the close proximity to Medicine Bow and Steamboat springs. Greatest skiing on the planet! Just glad at my age to be in SoCal where we don't shovel the atmosphere! Monty, it was -59° with windchill the other night, and I was painting outside because Tamiya sprays stink even with a fan. Those paints handle the cold fine, although the same can't be said for Krylon. (and I don't mind the cold. I don't like heat!) And I have spent many days in Vedawoo. Not a place to miss. Pete J., there have been some big changes to the University landscape. Have you been through lately? Still a great town. And the only month I haven't seen snow in this city is August. I don't know if you were still in town when you experienced the snow on July 4, but I have had that happen once, too! Quite a change from where I grew up (Cleveland). I agree with you regarding the crazy weather. My graduation day was set for Mother's Day 1989 (May 14th) My parents and my roommates' parents had all driven up there in Spring clothing because the weather had been fairly mild for over a week. Maybe it was out of giddiness at the thought of finally graduating, or maybe it was my naive belief that the weather would be OK that time of year, but somehow I failed to recall Rule #1 for Living in Wyoming: Keep checking the forecast! I had neglected to even bother with the weather 'cuz it was May, even in Wyoming. Fortunately, the ceremony was held indoors, because even though the day had started off beautifully, in the course of a couple hours it changed into a raging snow storm. But it was melted and dry so we could watch the fireworks from frat mall, so it was no big deal. A few years later, I woke up to 6" of snow on June 6th. Moved my car out from my neighbors decrepit tree with less than 30 minutes to spare! It was some heavy white stuff! Living out here, I carry warm clothes wherever I go. It isn't worth chancing it.
